Today was Maddie's last day of Little Mill Middle School. She had a lot to say about it! First, there was the walk, of course. At the end of elementary school, the students parade through the school with the others looking on, and fortunately this year Maddie got to do that with her classmates, walking through the different halls of the middle school, walking past sixth and seventh graders in a little parade through the building. They put a recording of this online, but despite watching it two times all the way through I couldn't see Maddie because it was such a bad recording. But that's okay, they meant well. What's important is that she enjoyed it and it was meaningful for her and the classmates.
It was a short day - there was a school breakfast, and lunch was a funny moment because it was actually the first time that she actually bought her lunch from the cafeteria. What's funny is that it is the only time she actually ever bought lunch, and it was on the very last day. So yeah, her first and last time.
The kids were playing Uno for a time, which was fun. Maddie won one of the games, but it's not about winning of course - it's about fun. She got an extra grade today, a last minute addition. She got an A on yet another math test and that brought her grade up to a 93. So she had a very stellar year, academically.
Speaking of good test results, my blood work came back. I got a great scores, with the cholesterol dropping considerably. I've been going to the cardio therapy, speaking of "walks," and this morning's walk was another solid performance. I did the 5k again, this time with a grade of about 6% at 4 miles per hour, getting it down in about 45 minutes, maybe a little over. It's still hard work, but each time we're adding elements to keep that heart rate up. I was around the 130's for a good bit of the walk, and it's been great to be able to actually do that. Today was my twelfth session, so I'm 1/3 of the way to completion. We had a bit of a review, and the therapists think I'm doing well.
Mom was doing more gardening today with Nana, adding mulch here or there. She was out today and got a floor mat for the back deck, one that looks pretty nice. It's like a carpet in appearance, only it's made of plastic and will do well with the weather.
Tonight we were back to taekwondo, and we were there so Maddie could be an assistant for a time, and then of course join in with the others with leadership. They're still using the swords, and I'll have to bring the camera tomorrow to take pictures!
Yes, tonight we watched "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." And because it was the last day of school, with no reason to get up early tomorrow, we watched three episodes in a row. We're at the tail end of season two, familiar territory, but there were some great episodes here. We love this show. Maddie has been enjoying this one for years.
Of course we read tonight, and then we were praying and getting some sleep. I sleep so much better now. We're especially excited about the fact that we don't have to set an alarm clock for tomorrow morning!
