Tonight we watched something that's been around a long time, but never got around to watching it yet - an old episode of the Disney show that featured Kurt Russell as a host, with special guests EJ Peaker and the Osmond Family. It's a super fun episode full of nostalgia, and lots of behind-the-scenes footage of the creation of the Haunted Mansion ride.
We didn't have so much time tonight, this due to homework, and of course taekwondo tonight. Maddie had a great time with that, of course, first helping others with training in class, and then going on to be in her leadership class as well. She was teaching the entire class tonight a few times, and getting some good tips about presentation and delivery from Master Edge. She's doing well, and we're super proud of her as always. She stands in front of the entire class with comfort and authority, and she's working on her ability to communicate and take command of the room. She's doing great, and it's awesome to see Master Edge give her so many opportunities.
We did some speed shopping after taekwondo, which is to say that Mom gave us a pretty big grocery list, and after taekwondo, we race over to the grocery store there which closes at 8:00pm, and we arrive with about twenty minutes to go. The three of us - Nana, Maddie and myself - race through getting all the items on the list, and sure enough, we get up to that register at the 8:00pm closing time. Great team work, gang!
It was raining again, but tomorrow we've got someone coming to replace our gutters, and then get covers for them too, so we shouldn't have any drainage problems. Lately, we've had a few waterfalls off the top of our house, so it's certainly time for that. But today they couldn't do it - the rain poured down, the end result of a tropical system named Nicholas. It hasn't given us a lot of wind or even lightning, but it has given us a whole lot of rain. It just seems like we've had a huge amount of rain lately, and it doesn't look like that trend will stop any time soon. Which is fine - it rains.
We were reading tonight from Kingdom Keepers, but I finished the George Washington biography by Joseph Ellis, and that was a good read. There's been a lot I've learned here, although there's been some things excluded. Still, it's been a great dive into history, and a good reminder that some of these icons of history were human beings just like we are.
Anyway, next I've started reading this other book called "Black Panther: the Young Prince." It's for younger readers, but it's been fun. It's also got a Halloween theme to it, which I didn't realize until reading it, and that's just a nice little touch. Glad I waited to read this until now! There's a bit of a creepy theme to it with summoning evil mystical forces from other dimensions, but good will win in the end, because that's how it all works. So... fun book, and a good one to read around October.
Maddie has been reading a book called "I Am Malala," which is appropriate timing, given that the book is about a girl in Afghanistan. Those who planned for the students to read this had no idea things would take such a drastic downturn in Afghanistan, but it just worked out that way. It's been a good read for Maddie, so we're all sitting here in the rain, reading books. That's nice.
Tonight we said our prayers. We'll have a good day tomorrow, the last before a fall break for Maddie. There's a big conference tomorrow at the church - a lot going on right now. But it's good, especially with this rain, to stop and just read a book sometimes.
