New Bird in Town

Maddie was off to school today, and I was up early snapping pictures of our newest hummingbird sentry.  It's a ruby throated male hummingbird, who I suppose we'll have to call "Mr. Bossy."  He seems to have picked up where Miss Bossy left off, standing guard over the feeder and spending more time and energy chasing off other hummingbirds than actually using the feeder.  Again, there's more than enough in that feeder, so it's not like they can't share!  The new feeder came from a trip to Wal-Mart.  We were shopping for ordinary items, and this one was misplaced in a sale area.  It wasn't on sale, but we bought it anyway, thinking we'd try and see if the hummingbirds would actually trade up with the other feeder, which is such a simple one.  We switched places with the feeder, and now this hummingbird is going to this feeder here, and as you can see, perching on the side and resting its wings for a bit as it takes a sip.

While Maddie was at school, we got some sand for the fire pit we're going to make.  We were at the dentist too, and both of us are all clear on our teeth.  Our next appointment is in March.  A lot has happened between these last two appointments, so there was a lot of catching up there.  We love the people down there at that dentist, and we've been going there for many, many years.  I think Mom was going there back in the 80's.  So it's been a while for both of us.

Maddie had taekwondo tonight.  I went to the school to pick her up, but she took the bus by accident.  It's okay.  We got to taekwondo just fine, and she was there doing some combat stick sparring, and of course working on her form as well.

As she was doing homework, the rest of us were watching "Men in Black II," which for me has such reminders of when we watched these movies a year ago.  Although I will say the stronger memory of it at present was seeing it in theaters at the Mall of Georgia many years ago, because immediately afterwards, we went to the parking lot and saw a Fourth of July fireworks display there.  This was back when fireworks were only permitted at community events like this, but nowadays you can see the same exact fireworks display in our own neighborhood, as some of our neighbors go all out.  But back then there were limited places to see fireworks displays like this, and the resulting bottleneck in traffic afterwards was absolutely insane.  We never went back there again for the fireworks, but it was a fun memory at least.

We started the next Kingdom Keepers book tonight, because Maddie had to find out what happened to Finn and Willa.  I'm not going to spoil anything.  But here we go on book number six.  It makes picking out the next book we're going to read super simple, doesn't it?  The next five choices are apparently already made.

We said our prayers tonight, praying for Nana's health.  Tonight she was nauseous, and it may be from the amount she ate this afternoon - it was more than usual.  She doesn't eat much.  While we're updating that, her memory seems to be slipping more and more.  I'll get back from dropping Maddie off at school, and Nana will ask me how my day at work went, even though I've been at the house all day.  Little things like that.  She still repeats herself, and the muttering about not wanting to be here is something that I have to really work on my patience with.  I'm not being the best model for Maddie when it comes to dealing with the muttering, as Maddie is somewhat impatient with it too.  We both have to work on that, actually.

Anyway, we went to sleep tonight early once more, as yes, it's a school night.  Also, this medication I take daily with my blood pressure makes me very sleepy at around 5pm every day.  So maybe that's why I'm a bit cranky.  Possibly.  Regardless, my blood pressure is super low, something like 100/70 on average.  It goes up to 110 over 80, but can go lower too, particularly after being on the treadmill.  It reads 90/60 from time to time.  The point is, it's low.  And not high like before, and I'm definitely okay with that.
