Upcoming Masquerade

More rain today. but here's something that's bringing some sunshine into Maddie's life:  Homecoming.  You may be wondering how there can even be a homecoming when the school is in its first year of existence.  I mean, there was no one here last year to actually come back home, because it is the first year this school has ever been around.  All jokes aside, it's happening, and Maddie is looking forward to it.  Now the challenge is to find a dress... and a mask.  It's a masquerade theme, and she's super looking forward to that.  She's always wanted to attend a masquerade, and she said ever since she's seen "The Phantom of the Opera."  I'll have to show her that one masquerade ball in "Labyrinth" too, just for fun.

Today Mom was waterproofing the scarecrow, getting it ready for next weekend when we set it out for the Atlanta Botanical Garden in Gainesville to place.  We sent an email to them with a photo of the finished product, and the woman who responded said Mom's creation was beautiful.  She knows and likes my parents, who were volunteers there for some time.  It'll be great to continue the family tradition and add a scarecrow to the gardens there.  Meanwhile, Nana and Ye-Ye's scarecrow from last year is currently at our house in the garage.  We might put that out closer to Halloween.

So Maddie had piano today, and although it seems difficult to do the one song she was thinking of for her recital, she's making her own adjustments to the piano sheet.  Perhaps she'll still be able to play it, but with a small variation or two.  Piano went well though.  Afterwards, we were at the grocery store, getting some of my medication (with seven pills a day, it's a constant thing).  But we also got some fiery ginger beer, which is a new tradition of ours, finding it wherever we can.  We like the ginger beer with an extra bite.  We also got some extra decorating materials for the upcoming gingerbread house that we plan on making. I've got my Count Chocula and Monster Mash cereal, but we need to get some Frankenberry and Booberry next.  These are important groceries, right?  One grocery item I saw available already - but I'll wait just a bit for buying - were pumpkins.  Yep.  Almost time to carve some pumpkins!  Speaking of which, we set a date for our pumpkin carving party, and we have a bunch of people coming already.  Should be super fun!

On the way home, we were listening to "The Greatest Showman" soundtrack again.  Maddie and I were singing along all the way home, driving home in the rain again.  Yep.  More rain.  I've got loaded up the "Nightmare Before Christmas" soundtrack along with other seasonal music, so we're ready for the sounds of fall.  Yes, we've got that dulcimer music as well, which Mom likes a lot.

Mom was making some decorations with the pampas grass, and that looks great on the back deck there.  The cat is now joining us on the back deck, although that's not the greatest thing when the hummingbirds are showing up.  We have to discourage the cat sometimes, and that involves taking him through the  house and setting him outside the front door.

Tonight, Maddie was doing homework while the rest of us were concluding the "Men in Black" trilogy.  Afterwards, it was time for bed.  We read, and we prayed.  It was a full day today, but it was nice.  It was cooler today, and it really does seem like fall is on the way in a big way.  That's something to look forward to.
