Beakers

Maddie sent me this picture of a beaker over a Bunsen burner, the heat turning the metal on the beaker holder a bright orange glowing color.  I'm not sure what the point of this heating is yet, but I'm always a big fan of the hands-on stuff in chemistry.  Biology... not so much.  But chemistry, sure!

It was a day of dangerous weather.  Maddie was looking out the window and seeing green skies, and that's never a good thing.  We heard hail, and felt the power of the storm front coming through, but we were blessed with a safety that many others did not get today as this powerful system of storms swept through.  The high school dismissal was right about at the same time as the arrival of this front, so it really messed with the dismissal process.

Oh, and check out this lightning strike in our neighborhood.  This isn't too far from where we are.  We heard several of these close strikes, powerful booms that shook the house as this dangerous weather passed over.  There were confirmed tornadoes and a lot of damage elsewhere, and a lot of cleaning up.  We were blessed where we were.

Elsewhere, Nana is still in the hospital.  There were CT scans, as we found out she fell last night.  Her memory is so bad at this point that she's not even sure why she's there to begin with, and that may work in our favor as professionals are giving her tests and evaluations so that we can know how best to proceed.  But she's going to be at the hospital tonight too, and maybe tomorrow to a mental facility to help combat the depression aspect of things.  The house is quiet in the meantime.  We've gotten accustomed to her presence over the past two and a half years, and it's going to take some getting used to.  Mom is still worried, understandably, and not sleeping well yet.  Anxiety is also affecting her digestive system.  We have a puzzle set up, and we were watching some programming tonight, like the new episode of "The Bad Batch," as well as other things.

Yes, there was taekwondo tonight, where Maddie and went on our own for the first time in years.  I sat there by myself watching Maddie for the first time in a long time, with no Nana beside me.  She's become a fixture, and others of course were asking about her.  She's in the best place at the moment.

We got some nice pillow covers for the couch, as Mom has this idea of pillow case covers that sort of celebrate each season.  We've got Valentine's Day ones on there now, and they look pretty nice.  Previously, we had some Christmas ones.  Soon, we'll have to look for St. Patrick's Day ones and so on, and that might be fun.

In the meantime, there was the usual reading tonight, and it's been such a great themed book for this Lunar New Year season.  The character Rincewind has discovered a terra-cotta army, and what follows is a funny  battle in which he of course has no idea what's going on.  That battle will probably be tomorrow, and we're wrapping up this story probably by this weekend.  Maddie's fine continuing with the Discworld for whatever book we do next.

We said our prayers tonight, praying for Nana of course, and for all those affected by the storms today.  Tough day for many.
