Another baby blue jay was hopping about in our back yard, and this time we knew enough to realize that's the way blue jays roll - they hop out of their nest and are basically finding their way in the world on the ground for a while. That's super scary as a parent, because I'm thinking of all kinds of predators and so on. Back last year when we didn't know enough about baby blue jays, we picked one little guy up to protect him. We thought he fell out of the nest or something. But that's how blue jays work, and now we know better. We were observing the little guy from the back deck, and of course making sure that miserable cat wasn't anywhere nearby.
Look at our little blue jay here, wanting to make the leap to the bench. Momma blue jay would come along and land on the bench and then have something to feed him. You can hear a little quacking noise like a duck and that's usually a tipoff that the little jay is somewhere in the yard or nearby woods.
So today was another sick day for me. It's the last Tuesday of the school year for Maddie, which basically means nothing is going on this week at school, or at least nothing of educational value. It's a fun week, a loose week, and that's okay. They're getting ready for finals next week, which Maddie has one of. But other than that, this week is pretty chill.
We finished "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." again tonight, watching the last two episodes of the series, and wanton to see this team again in some other show. It's actually Maddie's favorite Marvel show of all the Marvel shows, and that includes the ones on Disney+. I tend to agree with her. WandaVision is right there with it, but for longevity, creativity, and amount of interesting characters and so on, it's hard to compete with the 136 episodes of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." It pulled us along to the very end, and just as the show's producers promised, it was an ending the fans would like very much. It's just so cool watching Agent Coulson fly off in Lola at the end, and there are still questions as to what's next, but that's left to the imagination and that's okay.
I'll have to ask Maddie what her favorite episode is - it might be "As I Have Always Been," which is from this last season. I agree with her - it has everything: mystery, comedy, and an emotional twist at the end that's so unexpected and yet it is done so well. One mom my favorites was "Tracks," an episode from season one on board a train - it features Stan Lee, so you can't go wrong there. But there are all sorts of twists and turns on board this train, as the agents (and viewers) try to figure out what's going on. "The Ghost" is a fantastic introduction of Ghost Rider, and holy cow, who could ever forget that stunning and incredible twist in "Turn, Turn, Turn." We had been watching week after week and got to that one and were in disbelief. Perhaps that was one of the funnest parts of the show were seeing the twists and turns, and laughing out loud at what just happened. Are they really in space? Is that time travel to the 20's? It was fun.
We'll start up something new next, but tonight we read from our book, and after that we prayed. I'm on a lot of various medications now, and hopefully we'll all get a good night's rest.
