Listen to the Youth

Maddie had a great time at FCY tonight - you can see this picture on her Instagram account here.  I go to pick her up, but inevitably, we won't leave at the time FCY ends, but rather about a half-hour or more afterwards, because a lot of the students just love hanging out, talking, goofing off, or playing games of course.  The service itself is great, of course, something focused just for the youth, and in this series, by the youth too - there are special speakers each week, younger students themselves, speaking to their own.  The series is called "Listen to the Youth."

It was a good day today - one thing we're excited about is our very own pumpkin patch in the back yard.  I got some mulch, but Mom did most of the work in planting all the pumpkin plant sprouts, even putting a small sign up and putting all the mulch down in a rectangle area.  Can't wait to see what happens with that!

We spotted a hummingbird on the back deck again, but we've largely just seen the migrating sort of birds and not the hummingbirds that stick around so much.  This one might stay in the neighborhood, but we'll see.  Later on in the season, there's quite a few.  But in the meantime, there are plenty of other birds and creatures visiting, and that makes Nana happy to see.  One thing Mom and I are not as happy to see are these tiny webs popping up on the deck and elsewhere.  Look closely... they're juro spiders.  Tiny juro spiders. Tiny juro spiders that grow up to be big juro spiders.  Already we're attacking these spiders before they decide to go and make more juro spiders.

We got home late again tonight, from FCY, and didn't have time to watch anything, but we did have time for reading of course.  And prayers.  It was an nice day and a quiet evening.  The weather has been gorgeous outside, even at night, where on the back deck it's nice and quiet, the Christmas lights on the canopy illuminating the area where we sit and listen to the last of the bird calls and other noises of the night.  Just be sure to use insect repellent!
