National Devil's Food Cake Day

Another Thursday and another small group night for Maddie and her friends online.  I made up the game once again for tonight, following the theme that we usually go with, doing a game that honors whatever holiday today happens to be.  Lately, it's been pretty weak.  Today was National Devil's Food Cake Day, which meant some sort of game where the girls had to pick which plate had the chocolate cake on it.  Let's see... which one...

Ah!  It was "C," the third one over.  I made a slide for the winner, one that promised some free cake... but...

Maddie got the joke, of course, a reference to the game "Portals."  Truthfully though, as soon as she was done with small group, Mom had this platter set up with a really nice chocolate cake on top of it.  I had gone out to get that earlier, once I knew it was Devil's Food Cake Day.  I got something gluten-free, and after dinner tonight, we all enjoyed this super rich dessert!

It was a day for online meetings, and that's good as I was still not well enough to come in to the office.  Our planning of Summer Xtreme continues, and it is shaping up to be a rather big event.  I've been sending out communications and advertising.  We've got nearly 400 students signed up for it already, and we know that will grow substantially.  Feeding all those students will be interesting, and there are other logistical challenges, but we're working on it, bit by bit.

We started watching "The Mysterious Benedict Society" again tonight, although there are just eight episodes so far.  We just watched the one, and that gave us time read some more from that same book tonight.  There are differences, of course, but on the whole the spirit of the book remains intact.  We're enjoying both experiences.

We said our prayers, and after that, it was time for bed.  One more full day of classes tomorrow, the last Friday of the school year.  To quote every parent in the history of the the world so far, it's amazing how we've gotten here so quickly.
