Spy Kids

We started "Spy Games" again today, and this was not a part of the plan.  Due to styrofoam and scheduling issues surrounding Easter and Forward, KidPak once again finds itself left out in the cold, and without a new set.  We're using this old cityscape to be a backdrop for spies though, and I think it will be just fine.  The original plan was just one month, but we're finding out that the series is in fact going to be two months now, and on top of that, we won't have our new set until August or so.  All that said, our shift at KidPak these past few years has been quite an adjustment, going from being in control of our own choices to doing the best we can with what we have.  It's been challenging, but I think we're making it work.  On one hand, the messages are already written for Spy Games, as is the devotional.  But the skits and ongoing drama are going to be all new, and that presents new options for creativity.  You can see Charlie's Angels above, and we may do a skit like that in the near future.  And below, you can see who else we added to the roster.

We just spotted this Perry the Platypus onesie online and had to get it.  The audience got a big kick out of that, and I'm glad to hear he's still popular.  We were going to do it no matter what.  Obviously, it's just Camille in a onesie, but we made it work on stage and it was a lot of chaotic fun.

This week, Mom has been working on the costumes, going to thrift stores and getting with parents to see about sizing and so on.  The end result looks really great.  The whole concept of this series is that these kids are at a Spy Camp, learning about espionage and so forth.  I made it an OSS Spy Camp, just because we've been watching "Spy Kids" lately.

In the first skit, the kids are learning a lesson about moving forward with courage and faith, all based on the story in Numbers 13.  They sort of add a few things to the story as it is being told, hence the reference to Perry the Platypus.  It all worked out really well this morning, and the audience was super into the entire service, which was fantastic.

Mom had the idea to pick up Chinese food on the way home, and so we had ourselves a huge meal at lunch.  We had some of our usual choices, but we also got this mango shrimp with snow peas which was pretty good.  Nana ate a lot today, which was out of the ordinary for her.

We did quite a bit of yard work today.  The fire pit is almost ready to go, and I managed to get rid of all the leaves from the front yard, as well as pushing back this pile in the back yard.  We still have a bit of clearing to go there, plus some weeding along the side, plus more mulch, plus putting back out our little fairy village.  But things are coming along.  I need to get some more mulch, and somewhere along the line we lost our sunflower seeds so I'm going to go get some more for Mom to plant.  She wants the tall sunflowers in the back yard, so we have to get those.  Meanwhile, our pumpkin sprouts are just really incredible right now, and we also have to get those into the ground.  Those seeds took off in a big way, and are ready to transplant.

Maddie has been studying and doing school work this weekend frequently, but tonight we all gathered at the couch to continue our "spy" theme by watching "Black Widow," which we really enjoyed again.  I think I liked it better this time.

It wasn't our intent to be hostile to the neighborhood cat, but he's become an enemy of the state here.  Obviously biting Nana and causing her to get sick and us having to go to the urgent care was bad enough.  But Mom caught him with a chipmunk today, and that unleashed Mom's fury.  She chased the cat down and cornered him, forcing him to release the chipmunk, both of them scampering off in separate directions.  We're hoping the chipmunk is okay, but the cat has become a nuisance, using our yard as his toilet, and we're done with him.  Related:  I set up the garden hoses today.

We said our prayers tonight, and Mom was so tired, she went straight to bed.  We didn't get story time, but we'll make up for it tomorrow.
