Easter 2021

Wow, what a day.  Let's start out with the Easter morning services, which once again featured our Rebel friends on Hoth.  This morning's service was unique, as I placed on the younger cast a few more lines than normal, fully immersing them into the cast.  In fact, each one was preaching this morning, speaking lines from the script that told the story of Easter.

On top of that, she had a bit of a martial arts at the end, as there was a small routine with the bo staff to conclude the skit.  She did well!

It's great having such a wonderful team.  You can see the comedy of two unbelievers being mind-controlled to dance by jedi padawans.  Yes, that sort of thing only works on the weak-minded, but in this case there are three padawans, so maybe that gives it more power.  Hey, if "Rise of Skywalker" can make up new rules as it goes along, so can I!

Anyway, it was a tremendous service.  We gave away many, many Bibles, one to every attending child.  It was such a massive thing all across the campuses.  It was perfect.

Oh, and of course Madison's Easter egg adventure showed up online today as we premiered the Easter special with KidPak.  It was exhausting to watch!

We wished everyone a happy Easter, and then headed home where I had all kinds of fun planned for the girls.  While Madison was eating, I set up her Easter egg hunt, which was themed to "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."  It's been a while since we talked about that one, but basically we've been waiting on season six and season seven, and so I finally gave in and ordered copies of those, although I'm not entirely sure if they are official or not.  Regardless, that was the basis for the entire hunt for eggs, along with missing lanyards.  In fact, I called it "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - The Hunt for Lanyards."

That was the one sheet of paper Madison got, and then there was the other one, a letter from Billy Koenig that explained the missing lanyards.

The letter implored her to find those lanyards, and as a reward, Agent Coulson himself has hidden a basket somewhere in the house, its location revealed once Maddie translated these Kree "Words of Creation:"

I made up each of those letters.  Maddie could only translate that once she found all the eggs, which also had a lanyard of a character nearby.  Each lanyard featured a clue that told her where to go next.

The last lanyard of Maddie herself was inside the basket that she found at the end of it all, which featured the last two seasons of the show, plus candy and a mysterious 0-8-4.  That was a strange Rubik's cube we found, which seemed to fit the show's 0-8-4, otherwise known as an object of unknown origin or purpose.

You can see some of the lanyards to the right, as well as the basket too.  Maddie enjoyed the scavenger hunt this year - it was a great success, and it was unexpected, given we haven't talked about the show in some time.  But you can imagine we will be talking about it soon:  Maddie wants to watch the entire series now from start to finish!

After Maddie's scavenger hunt came Mom's own Easter egg hunt.  You can see the image I made above for the title sequence, and she got a letter herself, shown below:

Basically, it was a mystery, and she had to find each suspect located throughout the house.  One suspect would lead to the next.

At each location, there was a Crunchie bar, a clue for the next suspect, and an egg that had a Scrabble tile inside.  The nine Scrabble tiles, when put together in the right order, spelled out the word, "COOL BUNNY," which of course is the culprit, our "hip hop bunny."  And inside that bunny's outfit was a note that revealed where Mom's basket was located.  She got a nice basket with more English candies and the movie "Evil Under the Sun," another Agatha Christie murder mystery.

Mom enjoyed her hunt too, and thought it was fun!

Afterwards, we went over to Ye-Ye and Nana's house for a really nice afternoon together celebrating Easter.  Mom made a special collection of cupcakes for the occasion.

It was nice.  Nana was so resistant to going, but when she got there, she was as we thought she'd be:  the belle of the ball.  She was having a great time, and we were glad to see her smile.

Also, she loves ping-pong.  She's better at it than you'd think, this more than likely the result of years of playing tennis.  She's got a very quick eye, and is quite capable of giving you a run for your money!

She was playing against Madison, and sorry Maddie, but she was winning against you!  And she was hanging in there with me when we were playing, and Ye-Ye was playing against her later on, and she just had the greatest time knocking the ping pong back and forth.

While they were playing, you can see a few of us in the background.  We were hiding some eggs earlier, and yes, even though the kids are all older now, Aunt Shain was insistent:  there'd be an Easter egg hunt!

So while these two were having fun on the court, the hunt was on.  Aunt Shain, mom and I were hiding eggs in the front yard, and the four kids afterwards spent some time searching.  And look who's here!

This bunny has been around for years!  I remember this one from White County, where there was a big Easter egg hunt along the trail up there.

So the kids had fun collecting the eggs, and yeah, each was filled with more candy.  But it was super fun and everyone had a good time looking around on a beautiful spring afternoon.

Here's David, posing for a funny shot on the bridge there in the back yard.  And they all got us a fantastic Easter basket, an Ikea themed one that you have to put together.  The grass was in packages, the chocolate bunny was one that you assemble, and the other items were all do-it-yourself items to put together.

It came with some wooden toys to put together, and had the words "IKEA" on the front of the basket.   It was terribly clever.  After all these years, we're still making these baskets for each other.  Oh, and look at this hilarious cake!

It's a coconut cake, but it's just so vintage that Shain had to pick it up.  It was pretty tasty too, actually.  We had all kinds of great food today.  Ye-Ye had a big ham, and there were peas and other vegetables and macaroni and cheese, plus deviled eggs of course.

Oh, and there was a visit from the Easter Bunny too, of course.  It's Easter, so you'll see a few pictures of him in a moment.  But first, here's a few pictures of some of the flowers at Ye-Ye and Nana's house, courtesy of Madison.

Okay - back to the Easter Bunny.  A while ago, this same bunny was in a picture wrestling with Jonathan, and so we thought to recreate that picture and have some fun.  After all, it's not often that the Easter bunny is doing this sort of goofy stuff for photos.  So here are some of the photos we did with the Easter bunny:

It was a really great Easter Sunday.  I was going, going, going for a while there.  At the end of it all, we all stopped together at the house and watched the Sight & Sound production of "Jesus," which again is so outstanding.  We saw this last year during the quarantine, and really enjoyed it so much that we bought several of their productions to watch, including this one.  Tonight, we plugged it in once more, and enjoyed it so much that I want to share it with others.  It's the best "passion play" I've ever seen!

Finishing that, it was time for reading and time for bed too.  It's great that we're on spring break now - everyone can sleep in tomorrow!
