Madison's spelling list is quite challenging this week. First, there is the typical question of putting an apostrophe before, or after the letter s. Or, in some instances, before and after the letter s. And for some reason, this same spelling list is asking us to make plural these same words, adding to the potential confusion some. Don't forget changing the y to i, and adding an 'es' at the end. It's a little too much all at once for Madison, though she is valiantly giving it her best effort.
It might be just that kind of day though - Mommy said she was a little off for tennis practice today. It's okay though, as she was there and still keeping the practice up. Perhaps she was a little tired, which in effect is the reason for going to bed a little earlier today.
Tonight, Daddy had church - which went well. It was a good night, following a pretty good day. We've been scrambling to get quite a bit done today towards the play, December's upcoming series at KidPak, and January and February following that. Also in the news, Aunt Shain and her family will be over at the house for Thanksgiving. That's THIRTEEN people at the house for Thanksgiving, believe it or not!
We've been into the Thanksgiving books at night lately, reading some old ones like "Off to Plymouth Rock," and a new one called, "Pinkalicious: Thanksgiving Helper."
This is a fun book that we'll no doubt read a couple times before Thanksgiving. As a bonus, it also includes stickers and place holders for people coming over for the big day. We will probably use these, actually. I'll have Madison fill them out, and we'll set them up in front of each person's chair so they'll know where to sit.
Another book Madison really enjoyed was the devotional that Daddy wrote and read to her, especially after switching out all the names of the characters and replacing them with Madison, and people that she knows from church.
The other book that we're reading is "Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims," which is surprisingly fun for Madison. I wasn't sure if it would be received well enough, but in fact she's enjoying the voyage we're going on with the Pilgrims. Last year, Daddy read "The Mayflower and the Pilgrims' New World," which was not only good, but it also has the apostrophe in the right place. Anyway, this new book is more of an overview for kids, touching on the basics of the Thanksgiving story, and touching on the concepts and feelings of those involved. That said, it accomplishes its mission, and the character Liberty the horse is entertaining to Madison. It's a fun Thanksgiving read for kids!
So anyway, these are our new seasonal books. All the while, Daddy has been working on decorating this Christmas tree in the spare time in between. We're nearly done, in fact we should be complete by tomorrow. That is, with tree #1. Don't forget there's another tree for the other room. And of course Madison's tree too.
Speaking of tomorrow, there's a temperature plunge coming. We'll have to give it a creative name, something like the Polar Vortex of last year. It struck Alaska earlier this week with hurricane force winds, and has been barreling down towards us, as most hurricane force winds tend to do. Alaska is a couple time zones away, so you can imagine it has taken a few days. But lo, tomorrow we will see the temperature plunge. I do like the world 'plunge.' How about we call this latest cold weather onslaught the 'Polar Plunge?'
That should work. In any event, Daddy got lots of wood, piling it all up on our stockpile, getting ready for some pretty chilly weather coming our way. Today we have Hawaiian shirts on, and tomorrow... parkas and scarves! This made us all extremely thankful for the warmer weather we were having. We'll certainly be thinking of that tomorrow afternoon, as the temperature drops for the Polar Plunge!
