Seeing Red

Noted earlier, we voted a bit over a week ago - so we avoided the rush to the polling stations today.  This worked out, as it turned out to be somewhat of a busy day for Mommy and Daddy.  Of course, it is Tuesday, and therefore there is piano class.  We practiced there, over and over again, the piece called "Sleigh Ride," by Mozart.  It will be a group ensemble, and Madison is practicing part one, over and over again.  It's three pages long, but she's got a pretty decent handle on it.  She also has pretty much mastered her solo song she's chosen, "Oh Susanna."  The date for the recital is exactly two weeks from now, and everyone is gearing up.  Next week, we'll have somewhat of a rehearsal, and the week after is the big day itself.  It is for this reason that Mrs. Pam is encouraging kids to practice "Sleigh Ride" a lot more than what is even listed on the practice sheet.  Her motivation:  whoever has the most additional practices gets to give Mrs. Pam a pie in the face.  Yes, she went there.  Madison wants to do this, of course.  Which means she'd better get practicing. That's just one week from now!

That was in essence the majority of the time Daddy spent with Madison today.  There was so much work to be done with the Christmas production, and other areas.  We focused on casting tonight, finalizing a few more key roles. We even did some blocking.  After a bit of this, Daddy is feeling much better about the performance.  Some of the roles are fitting in quite nicely.

Meanwhile, Madison is doing her homework, and reading, and practicing speech - including a game called "Artic-tac-toe."  The first part of that title doesn't have to do with the northernmost part of the hemisphere.  It has to do with 'articulation.'  And yet, every time Daddy hears the shortened version of that word, you can't help but think of polar bears and snow.

It was a good day today, made better by the voting process.  As the title of this blog suggests, the country shifted to the right tonight, and quite dramatically.  We voted for our governor to return to office, and he has now been elected to do just that.  Madison was four when Governor Deal was elected, and will be twelve when he leaves office, God willing.  Obviously, that's a big chunk of her life.  Of course, she's never really thought about who is the governor before, and there's never really been a big reason to.  But, it's been a good random factoid to share with her growing up, especially on days like today.  Eventually she'll get to see the governor, just because.  He's from our neck of the woods, so hopefully that will pan out.  Can't wait to share that first picture of Madison and the governor of the great state of Georgia.

Mommy and Daddy had the iPad upstairs, watching the election returns tonight.  It was pretty overwhelming, and by night's end, you can imagine that both parties were absolutely seeing red.
