Madison was funny this morning. It may have been fatigue, or confusion or whatever. But she just didn't trust us. The sky outside said 8:00, and yet the clocks said 7:00. She just knew she was late for school. How else could you explain that the sun was already up?
Forget that Mommy and Daddy were trying to explain the concept of Daylight Saving Time to her. No, this had to be a prank, or something. She kept mentioning that it is daylight outside and she kept saying she was ready to get to school. And it was still a bit too early for that, but she kept pushing to go.
Finally, we realize she's genuinely worried. Even pulling out into the neighborhood, passing by the school bus, she's thinking she's going to get a tardy. She's worried about that. But getting to school, there are so many other kids there that are also late. And it is at this point that she begins to believe Mommy and Daddy: she's not late. It's Daylight Saving Time!
Today was a day to get some stuff done at home - including going out and getting a Christmas tree. Of course, we don't go to a tree farm anymore. Daddy goes downstairs to 'the forest,' which is an area where we have now three full-sized Christmas trees. These look real, so it's a bit like Narnia for a moment, as you're walking into this room and suddenly there are pine trees all about you. Daddy brought the one up to the great room, and we began to fluff it a bit. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to get lights on it. But the goal is to have a fully decorated Christmas tree by week's end. Yep, no messing around in this house. With all the practices for Christmas drama that are out there, we have to plan ahead with our other Christmas plans. Today, we attacked the calendar with ink, and suddenly, the next few months are pretty full of activity. There are the standard things we like to do each Christmas, and then a few new things as well. We'll see how it all plays out, as time goes on.
Daddy replaced a toilet seat today. Yep, he's starting his reign as Tool Man, and of course now he has his throne. This is a big deal, as Daddy has essentially not much experience with carpentry. Or tools. Or building things. Or fixing things. Just last week though, we discovered the glory of the internet, and how you really can find a video on how to change a 2001 PT Cruiser battery. By ourselves, we would not have figured it out that quickly. But thankfully, we were able to get a step-by-step process, and now we have a changed car battery. The toilet seat was much easier, of course. But still, it is noteworthy that there seems to be a shift in confidence here. By next year, I predict having a work bench, and a constant stream of DIY projects at my disposal! Okay, so that's pushing it a bit.
This afternoon, we were invited to watch Madison dance. Ballet was open to parents, so we could come in and watch a demonstration of some of the things that Madison has been learning. She's learning the French phrases associated with ballet, and of course learning how to do them as well. She was at the bar for a good bit of time this afternoon, and then doing a few other things as well. Her arms were very graceful in their motion from position to position. Mommy was especially pleased with all the progress she is seeing with Madison's poise. There has been a lot of growth, and learning, and she is quite happy with the direction this is all going in. Daddy was just smiling the whole time, watching his little girl dance so well.
Afterwards, we swung by Wal-Mart to pick up some stuff on sale. It's after Halloween, and we needed new carving implements for next year's pumpkin party. Little did we know that there would be some costumes on sale too - you just might be seeing these costumes at Christmas time. Madison loves to dress up, especially in outfits inspired by Monster High.
How funny though, that Daddy has to be careful in all he types at this point: Madison can read really well now. And here we go, approaching a new period of time on this blog. We're not quite there yet, but at any moment, she could visit this blog and read for herself all that Daddy is typing!
Tonight, we continued reading a bit - we read from the devotional that was written a few years ago. Madison is really liking the story - it's a visit to Thanksgiving Town, and it's an ongoing story that has been very entertaining for Madison. It's also a devotional, so it serves a few purposes there. We prayed before bedtime, praying for wisdom for everyone tomorrow. We'll see some election results by this time tomorrow, and hopefully it will all turn out well. We'll see!
