I found out a friend got me a ticket to a concert for my birthday, a ticket to see Weird Al! This concert is actually coming up pretty soon, so I'm pretty excited about it, doing somewhat of a Weird Al marathon in the car as I ride along listening to pretty much everything. This may include a viewing of "UHF," and yeah, maybe even the entire "Weird Al Show" set we have too... although my family might not be able to take too much of that. The last time I went to see Weird Al was back in 2015, but I've seen him about four times now, including the "Running With Scissors" tour when he came to the Tabernacle in Atlanta, and also the tour he did following "Bad Hair Day," performing at the Gwinnett Arena area. I've seen a ton of concerts over time, certainly back in the 90's, but not so much lately. So this will be a fun little excursion.
Anyway, tonight was a chill night for Maddie, one where the homework wasn't so bad and of course there was no scheduled thing going on. We watched "Scooby Doo," one of our favorite seasonal movies, and we had tacos of course for dinner. We didn't have the chili peppers that Shaggy and Scooby Doo have though, as that might cause one of those moments where from the exterior of our house, it appears as if there's a blazing fire inside with smoke pouring out the windows. Also, by not using those peppers, we can avoid yanking Maddie's tongue out roughly one foot out, and then dumping the entire contents of a ketchup bottle on it in order to cool her off. No, her hot sauce limits are pretty defined, and she has nothing to prove to anyone there. There's an unopened "hot chip challenge" chip in my office that she's completely not interested in trying out. Good for her! It saves us money on ketchup.
Anyway, today we were working on the Christmas production, which will largely be like the one last year, which was nothing short of spectacular. Mom is already working with the dance team and aerialists, coordinating and conceiving costume ideas, and I'm getting sheep and donkeys procured, as well as Wise Men, Joseph, Mary, and hopefully a live baby for the part of Jesus. Christmas is coming soon!
Maddie finished "The Book Thief" and she said it was a sad ending, but she enjoyed the book. She's been doing a lot of writing and homework related to that novel, and enjoys the reading part. Just not the extra work part.
Tonight we read too, diving into another chapter of the story of young Nicholas Benedict. His dealings with the orphanage bullies known as the Spiders have been great. You get nervous reading because they certainly appear to have the upper hand. But his intelligence always defeats them, or at least so far. We still have a good bit of book left to read, although we've gone through quite a bit.
We all said our prayers tonight, and soon after we were in bed earlier than usual. One reason is the PSAT tomorrow. Although another reason may be exhaustion too - we've been fairly busy lately. Anyway, it was a decent day, and we've got some more fun activities coming soon. It's October, so the calendar fills up very, very quickly!
