Taekwondo Testing

Maddie had another testing tonight with taekwondo, all part of the journey towards that second degree black belt.  Of the class, there were just a few who were testing.  Periodically, there are tests over the course of around two years or so.  Maddie skipped a testing last time as she felt it just wasn't the time yet, and that's okay of course.  By this point, these students are all much more mature, and they know this isn't a race, but rather a journey.  Here are a few photos of Maddie's experience this evening:

As I said, she did very well and there was never any question leading up to this if she'd pass or not.  Her form was excellent and she did well with sparring and with her board breaking, which you saw above.  In the end, she was honored alongside all the others who tested, as they each passed without any problems at all.  Master Edge said it was a great way to start out the testing week.  Meanwhile, he and I were talking about the upcoming Edgefest at the end of the month... we've got some fun ideas for games....

Today was the beginning of Homecoming Week at the school, and each day is themed in a fun way.  Today was Pajama Day, so Maddie and many others were wearing their pajamas to school.  Fortunately, the weather wasn't frigid!  Maddie is very much looking forward to homecoming at the end of this week, and even the football game again too on Friday.  I got her tickets this afternoon, as one of her friends is also going.

She's still studying though, still doing homework.  And still drawing too.  She was showing me some line drawings that she's been working on, one of this bouquet of flowers.  Her skills are increasing every day, every time she puts the pencil to paper.  It's neat to see her artistic talent blossom!

Maddie was studying while the rest of us were watching a Bob Hope movie called "The Ghost Breakers," which has some pretty funny lines in it.  It's actually a really fun movie!  It's October, so we've been going through these each night, our own version of "Thirty-One Movies of Halloween."

We read tonight, of course, and then we said our prayers.  It's been a difficult day with Nana, but hopefully things will improve tomorrow.  We got to sleep on time, all of us, bummed that the Braves didn't win the National League East yet... but there's still two more chances, the next one being tomorrow.
