Beta Club

Maddie was inducted into the Beta Club tonight, and as you can see above she got a certificate, a membership card, and a little pin too.  The ceremony itself was simple and straight to the point.  We gathered at the cafeteria tonight, parents and students alike, and went through the agenda printed on the little cards handed out at the door.

Here's Maddie taking her oath while seated next to her friend.  It's a longer oath, one all the students in the room were taking at the same time.  A good number of students were inducted tonight, which is good to see.

Here's Maddie at the front of the cafeteria, one of the newest Beta Club Members.

And here's another selfie of these two.  It was a quick ceremony, the longest part being the naming of each new inductee on the list, watching them go up to get their certificate and return to their seats.  Afterwards, there was a small reception and some cake, which was actually pretty good.  I love chocolate cake.  Anyway, we sat and talked for a bit, and then that was pretty much it.

Maddie snapped a photo of the sunset reflected on the windows tonight.  It was a beautiful sunset, as today it rained for a good part of the day and the weather was clearing just in time for us to say goodbye to daylight.

I was in Beta Club myself, but the only thing I remember from it was a Christmas party that was somewhat dull, one that had hot apple cider that was actually so hot that it scalded tongues.  I also remember being on a parade float through Cleveland where we were on the back of a flatbed truck dressed as various types of students, like a band member or a cheerleader or a lab scientist.  There was a big sign on that truck, one where the letters could be posted and moved about, and the sign said, "YOU JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS."  Somewhere towards the parade, being the practical jokers we were, two of us changed it to read, "JUST SAY SNOY."

Anyway, it was a good day today.  A short day for Maddie at school too - she had the PSAT today, which she felt okay about.  It's a pre-test, so there isn't as much pressure. But it is a long, boring experience that strains the brain.  The rest of her classes were light touch, with make-up work and other assignments that weren't as taxing.

We watched "Andor" tonight, and a few other things, although Maddie was involved with studies and homework.  She's been doing a lot of that each night.  But we made time to read, of course, and we said our prayers before heading off to sleep.  It was a good day.
