Pumpkin Cookies

We got to make cookies tonight, which was super fun thanks to what Mom set up for us.  She cut out the pumpkin shapes, and we got to work, adding sprinkles and candy eyeballs, a favorite of Maddie’s.  We used a whole bunch of orange, of course, and I think they turned out really well.  It’s a tradition for us to make these, and tonight we were just sitting there designing our cookies as we had a few episodes of a new spooky show streaming, “Just Beyond.”  We watched a few episodes, wrapping up and then getting them in the oven.  This Saturday is our pumpkin carving party, so we’ll have these extra treats out for folks to munch on.  Although we might be eating a few before the party even gets here!

Today was International Skeptics Day, which I doubted at first, but after doing some research, I discovered it was in fact International Skeptics Day.  So in honor of that, I created this true or false “Believe it or Not” segment, stating various facts that could be true… or if perhaps they’re not.  The girls had to decide if it was true if there were three Wise Men, or is it really true that two people in the Bible did not die?  Does a mongoose have three hearts?  Did John Quincy Adams have a pet alligator in the White House?  Did a man get hit with a ricochet from the bullet he fired at an armadillo?  Can you see the Great Wall of China from space?  Is the national animal of Scotland the unicorn?  Do we eat an average of three spiders a year in our sleep?

If you think some of those aren’t true, then you just might have a healthy sense of skepticism.  There are many of those that are in fact true, as the girls in the small group learned tonight.  Maddie had a great time as she always does with her small group experience.  Camille and Lauren always do such a great job with that.

Maddie slept in today, as she had a virtual school day today.  She was hard at work at home though, working into the night in fact.

It was a decent day today at the office.  We were planning Neverland somewhat, getting graphics together for that.  But we were also looking forward to November for the older Free Chapel Youth, plotting out messages for a series called “THX.”  The running joke about that is the title itself, which is shorthand for “Thanks,” but we keep thinking of the company that does sound for movies.

The weather forecast for Saturday keeps improving, and that’s good news.  Tonight Maddie was doing some homework, and after that, it was time for reading and prayers.  Our Kingdom Keepers book is nearly over – it might be that we’re finished with book six tomorrow, and of course having read this before, I know how this one ends.  Yikes.  I vaguely remember having to wait a good bit between book six and seven, and that in between there was a novella in between.  We’ve got that, and will start reading that one next.

Anyway, it was a good day.  I was walking this morning on the treadmill, and the blood pressure is slightly up from before, which is to say it’s around 117 over 70 or something like that.  Which is fine.  I was watching on the treadmill a POV through the Magic Kingdom.  Sometimes it’s a trail in Alaska, a corn maze, or a walk through a city like Budapest or Salt Lake City.  The next will be a POV walk down the beach at Hilton Head.  I usually listen to podcasts and such as I march along, my latest addiction being the one by Doombuggies, although the ones from “Christmas Past” are next.  That’s a great Christmas-themed podcast.

We got a new song from They Might Be Giants recently, and we’re pretty close to their latest release, “Book.”  There have been four songs we’ve gotten earlier, although there’s been a whole lot of other music we’ve gotten from them too.  I’ve been super happy with the Instant Fan Club thus far, and all the related releases.  There are a few things that haven’t gotten here yet, some are on the way still, and others might have to wait until later.  But we’ve gotten a lot of great things, and I’ve been happy to be a party of it.  Hopefully there’ll be a chance to renew.

Mom has put up some great new things in the back yard, planting our blossoming tea plant and another plant over to the side, beginning an “Alice in Wonderland” themed section of the back yard.  We’ve got some trellises there, framing the one side of the yard, with the fire pit on the other and the windmill in the middle.  The yard looks great, as does the back deck.

We had a good night tonight, watching a few things, and then heading off to sleep.
