The Return of Scribbles

Christy Anna Beth Ann Margaret is back!  This is one of our most popular cartoons we do at KidPak, and this would be the first time the girls have come back in a few years.  The funny thing about this cartoon is that Josh and Daddy do all the voices, although there is a cameo from Pastor Lance in this one as well.  Anyway, we were recording our voices for this one today, back to the sound booth.  We have a makeshift sound booth there, and we step up to the microphone to record our voices, much like you see in the behind-the-scenes features of animated pictures.  We sit there and say the same expressions about six or seven times, using different volumes, inflections and so forth. We change our faces even, helping reflect emotions and so forth.  Anyway, it's different, and it's more challenging than one would think.  But it's fun, and now for this one in particular, it's done.  Can't wait to see the finished product!

Madison brought home some of her paintings, just some things she was trying out with art club.  She had a few tests today - it's been a testing sort of week.  It was also picture day, but we'll see those pictures later on.  She wore a dress to school, and this was remarkable because Madison is in her own words, "Not a dress person."  Nevertheless, she looked very nice this morning.  In fact, here's her picture from the fireplace this morning - we take a picture of her each morning at the fireplace:

She looks great, and she had a good day at school too.  Meanwhile, Mommy has been busy getting ready for Easter.  We're doing this monochromatic look upstairs, and Mommy has been making apostles costumes in varying shades of beige, white, cream and so forth.  We're even getting props and so forth to have that look.  So she's been busy with the sewing machine again - and I think she'll have help from a friend as well.

Daddy wrote the skit for Sunday, and it's dedicated to a person that may or may not exist in the Frozen world.  For our purposes, that would be a yes.  In fact, I might just go ahead and paste the skit idea here below...

CALVIN:  “Stop!”

SAMANTHA stops at STAGE LEFT entrance.

CALVIN:  “That’s what I was wanting to know.  (pointing) Who’s Samantha?”

NARRATOR:  “I’m glad you asked!  For that is the question we want to discover…today!”

PAUSE

CALVIN and SAMANTHA look at each other a moment.

CALVIN:  “Is he gone?”

SAMANTHA:  “I think so.”

CALVIN:  “Good, because…”

NARRATOR:  (startling CALVIN and SAMANTHA) “So join us at KidPak as we find out these answers and more with KidPak Adventures:  Northern Lights!

PAUSE

SAMANTHA: “Okay, I think he’s really gone now.”

CALVIN:  “Yes… so … what’s the deal with you?  (gazing off and upwards)  Just who is Samantha?”

SAMANTHA:  “Well…”

CHEF FLORIAN:  (marching out STAGE LEFT) “Who is Samantha?  I’m glad you asked!”

RONA:  (marching out STAGE RIGHT)  “But just telling you is no simple task!”

ANNA:  (marching out STAGE LEFT)  “So let’s start this tale right away!”

KRISTOFF:  (marching out STAGE RIGHT)  “To tell you why she’s here today!”

PAUSE

CALVIN:  “What just happened?”

SAMANTHA:  “I think they’re going to tell my story.”

CALVIN:  “In rhyme?”

SAMANTHA:  “It’s a Frozen thing.”

SAMANTHA runs off STAGE RIGHT, followed by KRISTOFF

CALVIN:  “Where are you going?  What’s going on?”

NERDO runs out STAGE RIGHT and hands RONA, ANNA and FLORIAN notebooks that have the words “SAMANTHA’S STORY” on the front of them.  Inside are the scripts.  NERDO runs off STAGE RIGHT.

FLORIAN:  “Our story starts out recently.  In the enchanted wood!”

RONA:  “Now don’t think this is scary friends.  In fact it’s rather good!”

ANNA:  “We’ll start this tale with two you know.  Why these two are our friends!”

FLORIAN:  “Yes here they are.  You know them well!  Here’s Kristoff, and there’s Sven!”

KRISTOFF and NERDO enter to front STAGE CENTER, NERDO wearing reindeer antlers.

NERDO:  “Why are you making me do this again?”

KRISTOFF:  “Everyone knows the real Sven is up with Elsa in Ahtohallan.
(as SVEN) Well, that just means I’ll have to be Sven for this story.  (as KRISTOFF)  But are you sure you want to do it?  (as SVEN) Reindeers are better than people, Kristoff!”

NERDO looks at KRISTOFF.  NERDO looks at AUDIENCE.  NERDO looks at CAST

NERDO:  “What is wrong with this guy?”

KRISTOFF and NERDO venture into the audience, as if it is a scary wood.

RONA:  “The woods did not look right out here.  Yes this was something new.”

ANNA:  “But Kristoff and his friend reindeer?  They knew just what to do!”

FLORIAN:  “They wandered deep into the wood.  Where little light was shown.”

RONA:  “And yes, let’s all just say it now.  Deep into the unknown!”

RONA, FLORIAN and ANNA:  (dramatically) “Into the unknown!”

NERDO:  “Hey, that sounds like it could be a song!”

KRISTOFF:  “Or even a bottom line.”

ANNA:  “And that is when these two had stopped.  Yes, both had looked around!”

FLORIAN:  “For they were startled in those woods!  They heard a frightening sound!”
CUE SOUND EFFECT:  RUDE NOISE

NERDO:  “Sorry.”

FLORIAN:  “It was another sound, Nerdo.”

RONA:  “Yes, there were stories of this forest. Tales to mystify!”

ANNA:  “Here Kristoff felt some fear and gasped.  And Sven let out a cry.”
CUE SOUND EFFECT:  RUDE NOISE

NERDO:  “Sorry.”

ANNA:  “A little cry, Nerdo!  A little cry!

FLORIAN:  “But they did not let that fear win.  Their faith in God had grown!”

RONA:  “That’s why the pair went further in.  Right into the unknown!”

RONA, FLORIAN and ANNA:  (dramatically) “Into the unknown!”

NERDO:  “Okay, we get it!  We got it the first time.  It’s a song!”

KRISTOFF:  “(as SVEN)  I’m feeling a little scared here.  (as KRISTOFF) Aw, don’t worry, Sven.  You’re here for a reason.  Accept the call, and don’t be afraid!”

SAMANTHA enters from AUDIENCE RIGHT, UNSEEN BEHIND NERDO

NERDO:  (facing KRISTOFF)  “Would you stop that?  I am not afraid.  This is all goofy and I have these antlers on, and we’re in the middle of nowhere, and… (from behind SAMANTHA taps NERDO on shoulder)  AHHHHH!  (running to other side of auditorium) Great googly what is that?”

ANNA:  “It was our friend Samantha, and she’d made a journey here.”

FLORIAN:  “She stepped out with amazing faith, despite having some fear.”

CALVIN:  “Wait a minute.  You were from Ah… (struggling to pronounce it, as I have all week) Ahto…Ahtohallan?”

NERDO:  “Bless you.”

CALVIN:  “Thanks.”

SAMANTHA:  “I heard a voice calling my name… and I had to follow that voice.”

CALVIN:  (impressed) “Wow.  You were like Queen Elsa.  You heard a voice call out to you?”

SAMANTHA:  “Yes.  It was deep in the woods.  It said, ‘Anna?  Elsa?  Sven?  Kristoff?  Samantha?’ See?  He called my name.  And I knew I had to follow that voice!”

KRISTOFF:  “Wait a minute.  You …heard someone in the woods with Anna, Elsa, Sven and me.  And he called your name…?  (deciding)  I’m gonna’ tell her.”

ANNA:  “Don’t you dare!”

RONA and FLORIAN clear their throats.

FLORIAN:  “The point is that our friend stepped out.  And stepped out all alone!”

RONA:  “She journeyed on this walk of faith… right into the unknown!”

RONA, FLORIAN and ANNA:  (dramatically) “Into the unknown!”

NERDO:  (pointing at RONA, FLORIAN and ANNA)  “Do that one more time.  ONE.  MORE.  TIME!”

RONA, FLORIAN and ANNA look at each other awkwardly a moment.

ANNA:  “And following that voice they came, and found themselves back home.”

KRISTOFF, NERDO and SAMANTHA return to STAGE

FLORIAN:  “Their walk of faith had led them on.  Right into the… (sees NERDO glaring at him)  …uh… castle.”

RONA:  “Yes, strangely all this fog dispersed, and then showed her the way.”

ANNA:  “For once she stepped out in her faith, God brought her here today.”

CALVIN:  “Wow.  I had no idea.  You stepped out in faith to be here in Arendelle.”

SAMANTHA: “Yes, and it’s been a happily ever after.”

RONA:  “So when you step out in your faith, just know you’re not alone!”

ANNA:  “Yes, God is there, ordering our steps…right into the unknown!”

RONA, FLORIAN and ANNA:  (dramatically) “Into the unknown!”

NERDO:  “That does it!

ANNA, RONA and FLORIAN close their books abruptly, and run off laughing as NERDO chases them off STAGE RIGHT.  CALVIN, KRISTOFF and SAMANTHA stand there either laughing or in some state of shock as to what’s going on, as things close.

NARRATOR:  “And so we’ve heard another tale, another story shown!”

NARRATOR:  “Join us next week as once again, we’re into the unknown!”

NERDO marches out STAGE RIGHT, pointing upwards.

LIGHTS BEGIN TO FADE

NARRATOR:  “Or something like that.  Anyway, see you next week, and thanks for joining us for KidPak Adventures:  Northern Lights!”

Anyway, we had a quiet night at home.  We saw the new Clone Wars episode, where the clones got away from that dastardly Wat Tambor and his Techno Union.  What's impressive is that Echo is in fact still alive, although somewhat of a cybernetic clone right now.  I'm sure there's more to that story as we move along.  Knowing what we do about where things are heading, it can't be good.  Or can it?

Continuing the Star Wars theme tonight, we watched the next few episodes of season two of "Resistance," and the animation is just amazing.  It's very different, and fun to watch.  We're speeding towards the end, and we'll see what happens there.

And keeping with the Star Wars theme, that was of course our reading tonight, reading out loud "Thrawn Alliances," and picturing Darth Vader on a speeder bike.  Of course he's a pilot, and we saw all that Anakin did earlier.  It's just odd imagining him doing anything other than lumbering around, using a lightsaber and pointing at people threateningly.  And force choking people, of course.  Anyway, it's been a good read thus far, although we're very early into the book.

The other book that Daddy has been reading is "Forest of Shadows," a book from the "Frozen" series.  It's been a great read, although there's been a few of the usual odd forced Disney stuff in there that seems out of place.  But other than that, it's been a good read, actually.  It's part of the research for the current KidPak series, of course.  We'll have references in the skits, possibly, to "Fredrick the Wolf" now.  He's somewhat of a scary presence though.  We'll have to see what's up with that as the book moves on.

Anyway, it was a good day.  The nation is a little frightened of this virus lately, and we're all buying up sanitizer and so on.  There are two confirmed cases in Georgia and several others in Florida, so it isn't that prevalent at the moment.  It's just this fear thing that keeps getting pushed out there.

Speaking of Florida, the grandparents are coming up this weekend, now that the rain has passed and we're all feeling better in the house.  Ba-Ba's diagnosis has shifted, and we're still needing to pray a lot.  We've been doing that for him, and for others that are sick.  There are many to pray for.  There were terrible storms in Nashville this week, and many have lost their homes and loved ones.  We prayed tonight for those, and for God to watch over as we sleep.
