Today was yet another day where we went Knowhere.
Which would be a fun little adventure if we were with the Guardians of the Galaxy. But in fact, the truth is that we aren't going to that physical location in deep space, or any other place at all. The correct spelling of today's blog entry should be... NOWHERE. We're going nowhere. But we still went somewhere - at least online.
But that doesn't mean the "know" part was completely wrong. Madison learned a lot today online. We just had to stay home to learn it. That, of course, is what is required of all of us. There was no taekwondo camp this week, and even before that announcement was made, we had already decided to stay home. Part of this was due to Madison's school work load, and the other part was due to the increased presence of the virus in this area. Fortunately, the decision was made for us, as taekwondo is closed this week, along with school still, and also Madison's piano lessons.
Everything is online though, and life is doing its best to move along. Madison spent a very big part of the day doing school work, taking a break from that to do some piano practice, and then back to school work. We had a nice meal today, and we're grateful we have that food to eat. Mommy has been spot on lately with delicious meals prepared, and great snacks as well. Ever since Napoleon Dynamite viewing, we've been eating up all our tater tots at a more frantic rate, and today we reached our first food emergency: no tots. We have to go out and get some of those eventually!
Madison had her piano class today, and just as she was doing her school work online, this too was online. We had this laptop I'm typing on set up in the room with the piano, and Madison had a Skype call with her teacher, who is currently in Lumpkin County now. The two were talking over Skype, and Madison was there at her piano, playing various pieces for her.
Daddy is still working on that Lady & the Tramp jigsaw puzzle. You'll have to wait and see that one later, but Madison was adding a few pieces to that in her spare time today. We did some KidPak work, making keynotes and Parenting Matters, and we were also working towards coordinating some filming. The rain is a pouring down again, and promises to do the same tomorrow, so that might be a hindrance to filming plans. But we'll make it all work.
Since we're not doing taekwondo in person, we'll be doing the Zoom idea again, the one we did for the conference call earlier. This time, we're doing it with taekwondo, which will be fun to do. That's tomorrow at 5:30, I think. So fortunately, we're all staying indoors.
I may have to slip out for some grocery shopping, but I'll wear gloves. And maybe one of those suits the government people wore at the end of the movie "E.T."
It was a quiet night tonight, with reading and watching the movie "Galaxy Quest." Madison has never seen that one before, and it is one of our favorites, so it was just a matter of time. I still laugh out loud at certain scenes. The one where everyone is first beamed above the ship cracks me up every time. Everyone enjoyed the movie, and the popcorn along with it. Uh-oh... just realized our popcorn supply is dwindling somewhat. We'll have to pick up another bag, and ration what we have!
We spoke with the grandparents today - all of them. Everyone is doing fine, taking the isolation seriously. The Governor of Georgia isn't making it an official lockdown of the state, but a lot of local governments are: Atlanta and Dahlonega are shut down, as are Gainesville businesses. No public gatherings, but you can drive to a restaurant to pick up food. We may do that at one point to support a small business, if they have that option. Tonight the President was talking again, and fortunately he was letting the doctors answer a lot of questions about containment and the spreading of this virus. Some US Senators have the virus now, as do some Representatives. One party is down five votes because of the virus. Neither side is agreeing on a stimulus package at the moment, though from what I understand they did agree on one earlier. Now that's changed, and nobody is getting anything. Why not go back to the thing they all agreed on earlier? Not sure what's going on, but it's not a good image there at all.
So the rain is falling down, and we've now been here a few days without leaving. We're seeing lots of posts online, and live concerts. Today we were watching a livestream of a couple in Seattle talking about salmon. It was a science class, and it was interesting. We watched a puppet show from That Puppet Guy, a puppeteer who does some great shows for us at Summer Xtreme and other events. We also watched Laurie Berkner play, and she's been wonderful each day. We even saw a live turtle release at Ponce Inlet this morning, watching our friends at the Marine Science Center release some green sea turtles.
There's a lot of community online, and it's been fun to see some friends and others join in online to encourage and bring a little extra joy to each day. We can do this together, even if we're going nowhere. Or even Knowhere.
