Here's a view of today's eclipse coverage from North Georgia taken with the camera pointed through those eclipse viewing glasses we kept from the last time. This solar eclipse was not total for us in our region, and yet it still covered about 45% of the sun maybe?
Fortunately, Mom found those glasses and we were able to see the coverage directly, although there were other methods to check it out too. Mom had a bowl of water at home and was looking at the reflection a bit, that is, until Maddie and I got home to her with the glasses so she could see too. The event lasted a while, so we had time to get to her.
We were at the church, and as you saw above, Officer Monica was there, and she was glad to borrow the glasses a few times too. In fact, all the kids and adults at practice got to peer through the glasses and look upwards at the eclipse as it was occurring. You can see here that my camera wasn't showing the eclipse, but still you could tell looking outside that things are different outside during an eclipse. It's hard to describe - the atmosphere all around has a hue that looks like someone applied a Photoshop filter on the planet, and things get strangely quiet in nature. During one eclipse, I remember seeing visible waves of light just washing over the landscape like waves of water.
Of course we were all super busy during this time. The morning was scheduled for Christmas production practice and Maddie had her Team Edge practice. I was driving to and fro, but one neat thing was that the play practice ended pretty close to peak time for the eclipse viewing, so the cast got to look up and see the eclipse for themselves.
But we got home and that gave us all a chance to stop for a moment and catch our breath. Because we'd need that! I was doing my walking, and Maddie was spending the afternoon getting herself ready for the Homecoming Dance!
Maddie's friend Maddie arrived around 4pm, and there was some time there for socializing, but right afterwards, we went over to the wedding chapel at our church, where we were able to take a lot of pictures of the girls in their homecoming dresses, and they all turned out really well. The lady who coordinates the weddings there even provided transportation all over the place, driving the girls around in the church golf cart so they wouldn't have to walk so far in their heels. We took pictures at the fountains, where the weather had cleared up wonderfully and you could actually see a rainbow through the mists. We took pictures inside the chapel, and then of course at the gazebo too. It was all very nice!
After the photo session, we went over to get some boba tea at one of Maddie's favorite stops, and things timed out exactly right when we were done, because we had just enough time to get over to the dance from there. I dropped the girls off at 7pm, and they had a marvelous night.
Maddie was at the photo booth, attempting to do those line dances with heels, complimenting other girls' dresses, battling with glow sticks, and just having a great time. I was so glad of that. Mom and I were going through some of these photos at home, but when we got the text to go pick up Maddie it was around 10pm. They were there the whole time, and enjoyed it a lot. I took the other Maddie home, and the girls were looking through their photos on the way there, talking about the night. They had a great time!
