Pumpkin Patches

The weather this afternoon was so beautiful that we decided to make a quick trip over to Bradley's Pumpkin Patch, as we saw they were opening a little earlier this year.  It was one of those afternoons that made it difficult to resist a drive through the country.

We love the people who own this place.  They've been faithful volunteers at the church for many, many years.  Longer than we've been going, in fact.  Tony has been directing traffic for so long, and it was good to see him feeling better.  We were sitting there visiting with the family, talking for a good bit, and doing some shopping too.  We wanted to be sure to get a lot of things while we were there.  Yes, there were pumpkins, but we also picked up some elderberry jam, and a few Big Foot items too!  And one thing we all love dearly are their muscadine slushies.  We got a few of those today!  And we got some muscadine cider too, because I just have grown to love that stuff.

Anyway, this was a very pleasant visit.  I'm glad we weren't in a hurry - I think we spent over an hour there just talking, playing games (Maddie and I did some cornhole, and then Mom played her at a game of Connect Four).  Maddie won the games, by the way.  It was close!

There were a few other customers coming by, but it is extremely early to be getting pumpkins.  In fact, it's the earliest we've ever gotten any pumpkins.  But Maddie and I picked a few, which are now by the fireplace decorating our living room.  Here below are some other pictures we took from our recent visit.  Some are taken by Maddie while others I took too.  Maddie's gotten very good with the camera!

After visiting there, we thought we'd go by the other nearby pumpkin patch at Burt's just to visit!  Again, the weather was just right for this sort of thing.  Some of the leaves were starting to turn, and the crowds were so low because again, it was early.  But compared to last year when we went so late in the season, this was a much nicer visit, as you didn't feel like you were going to bump into someone ever few seconds.  Anyway, here are some pictures from our visit to Burt's Pumpkin Farm:

I love Maddie's photography, and wanted her to take some pictures too, which she was happy to do.  Mom and I walked about - we got ourselves a butternut squash (because we love that soup!) and a gnome decoration for the front yard.  We also got some more peanut brittle too!  Maddie was meanwhile taking pictures:

It was a really nice afternoon!  We weren't in any hurry, and it was just nice to walk amongst the sea of orange pumpkins and help other people take their family pictures, while others would offer to do the same for us.  Here are some other photos from this afternoon's trip to Burt's Pumpkin Farm.

The rest of the day was fun too, of course.  And yes it's Sunday - we started out at KidPak, where Maddie was involved in another new skit I wrote, the one with space pirates in it.  I wrote this one on Talk-Like-A-Pirate Day.

After church, we grabbed something to eat at Wang's, and that was nice.  And when we got home from our trip to the pumpkin patches, we watched the movie "Book of Life," which is one of our seasonal favorites. We also saw an episode of "Loki" because the new season is coming out soon.  We were reading from "Wee Free Men" after that, and saying our prayers because it was late, and such a full day had us quite tired and ready for sleep!
