It's Talk-Like-a-Pirate Day, and today was a little busy, but it turned out really well at the end with a lot done, and some fun thrown in there for good measure. You can see Maddie above posing for her daily picture in the morning, making the hook sign and even saying "arrr!" for good measure. We had the "Pirates" soundtrack playing on the way in, and she was off to a good day. I was off to walking at that park again, keeping that blood pressure down pretty well.
Maddie got a hair cut today, an appointment that she set up some time ago and has been looking forward to. We got her over there on time, and Mom and I were there in the waiting area watching from a distance as the hair stylist and Maddie talked and of course worked together to get a new look. We'll post pictures in a bit for that, but it turned out really well. The hair stylist isn't that far away, so it wasn't a huge trip. But it was nice for Maddie, and of course she'll have a nice look for Homecoming.
Tonight she had homework, and she was busy with Forensics and Pre-Calculus for a bit. It's Talk-Like-a-Pirate Day, so the there of us watched a few episodes of Clone Wars from a while ago, the ones that introduce Hondo Ohnaka, the greatest space pirate of all. Inspired, today at work I was writing a skit with space pirates again, with Maddie and the padawans involved too. It's a short little skit, and in fact we'll have it posted below in honor of the holiday. At one point, the space pirates stop at Mos Eisley to go to the new Buc-ee's that's there.
I would be one of the first to visit there! Anyway, it was a good day, and finishing up our Star Wars theme, tonight we watched the latest Ahsoka episode, and just loved it. It's one of the most Star Wars things I've seen in a long time, a wonderful new episode that features some surprises that are just so great. We loved this episode. It's been a good series.
Tonight we wrapped up things afterwards by reading some more before bed. Meadow the cow was sitting in the bathroom on my sink - he just keeps showing up in different places. The next day, he was there in Maddie's room sitting on the toilet. It's a fun ongoing joke. But the plush entourage was there for reading, and after that it was time for prayers. It's a beautiful day out there. The fire pit is ready, and we're still working on cleaning up outside and in - lots to do there. Also a lot of things to clean up with accounting and updates with Nana's passing. We're getting there! We said our prayers tonight, and brought the entourage back to Maddie's room - we got to bed tonight with a quick prayer, and a quick "Arrrrr!"
As this entry closes out, here's the quick skit I wrote up today to celebrate pirates, or at least space pirates in the Star Wars galaxy, far, far away...
KidPak Adventures: The Spirit Awakens
Follow the Master
CUE TRACK: 1 STAR WARS 1_2
HOST: “Why were the space pirates suddenly friendly with our heroes? The padawans have written another story about their encounter, and they’ve done it all …in rhyme! Join us now as we discover that story and more with KidPak Adventures: The Spirit Awakens!”
CUE SLIDE: TATOOINE
CUE TRACK: 2 Jar Jar’s Introduction (end at :50)
HOST: (slowly) Here is a tale, of padawans and their master.
JEREMIAH: (peeking head out) Excuse me, but could you read a bit faster?
JEREMIAH, ELIZA, and MADDIE enter STAGE RIGHT (with foam lightsaber noodles)
HOST: Sorry. Anyway, here they come, the students lined up
And that’s when their master came in…
TYTUS: (entering with lightsaber) Whassup!
JEREMIAH, ELIZA, and MADDIE: “Whassup!”
HOST: There was one way to be a jedi, this way was true
TYTUS: If you want to be master, you must do what I do!
JEREMIAH, ELIZA, and MADDIE imitate TYTUS’ every move
HOST: He swung to the left, and then he swung to the right
They’d all be good jedis and fight the good fight.
TYTUS: “Now stop, padawans.”
JEREMIAH, ELIZA, and MADDIE: “Now stop, padawans.”
TYTUS: “No, you don’t have to copy that.”
JEREMIAH, ELIZA, and MADDIE: “No, you don’t have to copy that.”
TYTUS: (backing up) “Okay, enough!”
JEREMIAH, ELIZA, and MADDIE: (following) “Okay, enough!”
TYTUS: (panicking, going into audience) “Leave me alone! Help!”
JEREMIAH, ELIZA, and MADDIE (following faster) “Leave me alone! Help!”
TYTUS flails and screams, exiting behind audience, with JEREMIAH, ELIZA, and MADDIE following, doing as he does as he flails and screams.
CUE TRACK: 3 Watto’s Deal
MICHIAH and NOADIAH enter STAGE RIGHT, holding small sphere.
HOST: Meanwhile, there were others following, but from a far
They were the kind who said, “Avast!” And even sometimes said,
MICHIAH and NOADIAH “Arrr!”
HOST: They were following too, but were following a map.
Maybe this led to treasure. Or perhaps…
NOADIAH: It’s a trap!
MICHIAH: Quiet! That was last week, Noadiah!
NOADIAH and MICHIAH goes to STAGE RIGHT in front of screen.
HOST: These two followed the map to Dagobah, then Naboo
Where they joined a party with the queen
NOADIAH: It was a dance party too!
CUE TRACK: 4 Han Solo
NOADIAH does a small dance for a moment until she’s stopped by HOST
HOST: Are you done?
NOADIAH: Almost!
NOADIAH finishes with a small flourish.
NOADIAH: Okay, you can continue.
HOST: Thank you.
CUE TRACK: 3 Watto’s Deal
HOST: They found themselves on Tatooine, and there they got lucky
Because that’s where they found the planet’s largest Buck-ee’s!
CUE SLIDE: TATOOINE BUCK-EES
MICHIAH: That place is amazing!
CUE SLIDE: TATOOINE
HOST: And now they arrived, and yes, this was their shot!
They wound up right here because…
MICHIAH and NOADIAH: “X marks the spot!”
MICHIAH and NOADIAH point to STAGE LEFT, and take large, counting strides that way.
MICHIAH and NOADIAH: “One… two… three… four…”
HOST: Good fortune was with them. Oh yes, they were blessed
They gazed down and saw something. What was it?
MICHIAH and NOADIAH: “It’s sand.”
MICHIAH: “I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.”
HOST: “No. Not the sand. What’s in the sand, girls? Rhymes with blessed?”
MICHIAH and NOADIAH: (pointing at chest at stage left) “Oh, the chest!”
HOST: “Yes, they found what they searched and sought after
They were so happy they broke out into spontaneous laughter
MICHIAH and NOADIAH laugh, with NOADIAH doing a rather weird laugh that just keeps going as MICHIAH looks at her, somewhat worried and finally elbows her to stop.
NOADIAH: “Sorry. Just sort of got a little too much into it there.”
HOST: “So what was in the chest? There was one way to learn
They reached for the lock, and gently, they turned.
MICHIAH pics up chest, and then opens it to look inside.
HOST: What was inside? They were about to find out
When suddenly, that’s when they heard a very loud shout
TYTUS: “Stoppit!”
TYTUS runs out STAGE RIGHT, followed by MADDIE, JEREMIAH and ELIZA
MADDIE, JEREMIAH and ELIZA: “Stoppit!”
MADDIE, JEREMIAH, ELIZA and TYTUS stop and freeze, looking at MICHIAH and NOADIAH. NOADIAH pulls out a BIBLE from the chest.
HOST: They all faced off and, gave each other a good look.
And then one pirate pulled out from the chest …a book.
MICHIAH: This is the treasure we’ve been looking for? A book?
TYTUS: What are you doing?
NOADIAH: We traveled twelve parsecs, following a map to get to treasure. And it’s a book?
CUE TRACK: 5 Anakin’s Theme
JEREMIAH: Oh but this is the greatest treasure there is – it’s God’s Word.
HOST: And that’s when our heroes spoke some words from their pastor
About our Heavenly Father…
JEREMIAH: We all follow the Master.
TYTUS: The greatest treasure comes from living for the Lord, and following His Word.
TYTUS gestures for them to follow him off stage.
HOST: Our pirates were intrigued. They wanted to know more.
So they followed our friends, and were led out the door.
CAST begins to exit STAGE RIGHT
HOST: (slowly) Yes, they’re heading to join KidPak…
JEREMIAH: Can you go a little faster?!?
HOST: (quickly) So stick around now as we learn to FOLLOW THE MASTER!
CAST: The End.
CAST waves and exits STAGE RIGHT as lights quickly fade.
