This morning, Maddie and I were off to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, which wasn't that bad of an experience at all. In our time, we remember the wait times at these places, and it was extraordinary. Mom and I got all kinds of paperwork done ahead of time, sifting through the confusing information on the website, and getting there with the right material so Maddie could take her test. We waited for a bit, and we were prepared for this...
But it wasn't that bad at all. And despite the unclear website info, we still managed to get the right paperwork there, and soon enough Maddie was in a side room, taking a test on a computer. Not long after that, she came out triumphant, letting me know she passed. Five of the questions she hadn't seen before and guessed, once more highlighting the near useless website. But she's smart enough and some of the questions were common sense, so she did well enough to pass. We were handed a piece of paper that legally gives her the ability to drive a car, as long as I'm in the passenger seat (or some other adult), and all of the sudden we're taking this huge step forward.
On the way home, we stopped by the library to pick up a book we put on hold, "The Mysterious Benedict Society." It's a big one, but Maddie is already starting it today. On the way home, we were talking about all kinds of hypothetical driving situations, and already we're doing all kinds of tests and training before she even gets behind the wheel.
The rest of the day was a bit more mundane. We had rain showers come through once more, and I was off at work filming a good bit dressed as the Cowardly Lion. It'll be for a couple videos upcoming. We're working on "Thunderstruck" and "Oz" at the same time, and lurking just past July is a new series we're doing called 'The Lost World," which we've tried to do a few times in the past. Last year, the pandemic cancelled that, so here we go again.
Tonight Maddie and I were in Manhattan, or at least the LEGO version of it. We were playing as Avengers and other heroes, collecting various gold bricks and additional heroes. This was after yet another fantastic dinner from Mom. We had fajitas, and there was a salsa on the table that she mixed together with cilantro, onions, peppers, and tomatoes from our garden! It was absolutely delicious.
It was a longer day, but it was a good one. I'm tired, but that's medication. Maddie had all the plush friends lined up to hear the reading tonight, including Putnam, Chuck the Groundhog and Jackie Chan the sea turtle. We read tonight, and we prayed, and I was asleep fairly quickly. Big day today for Maddie though - she'll be learning to drive soon enough!
