So the Australian won the Women's finals in Wimbledon, but more importantly, it was a win for short people everywhere! It was a good match, and things appeared neck and neck for a time. But someone had to win, and we enjoyed watching that match - all that's left is the men's finals, although we were watching some of the wheelchair matches, and those were really exciting too. Also "compelling" were the mixed doubles matches. That's the word we keep hearing to describe all these matches: compelling. That's the British equivalent of "exciting," or even "thrilling."
Maddie returned to Team Edge training today, this after a brief break, as students spent time at the Forward Conference. The session is about an hour and a half, and though there's a lot of exercise and warm-ups, it's a more chill atmosphere, and more time spent by the students trying to get in synch with one another for performance drills. Maddie was commenting about funny it was that the students were doing better with that synchronized performance when there was no music at all. They were getting things right though, this after a good deal of drills. Practice makes permanent!
We got some more tomatoes from the garden today, some nice big ones that just look gorgeous. They're a little bit red and a little bit green, but we sit them in the window sill and let them ripen a bit more before they're really ready. Right now we have a few that are turning a great shade of red. The new ones are almost there. But they're all huge.
It looked like it was going to rain today, and in fact the projected path of these storms showed as much. The weather radar was once again fooled though, and despite the fact that there was thunder and downpours all around us, we once again found ourselves in this mysterious dry window. I don't mention it here too often, but there's some sort of geographical or at least meteorological phenomena that happens over this particular area, and sometimes that's for the best with some of the rougher weather coming through. But sometimes I just don't want to go out there and water the plants, and today was one of those days!
While Maddie was training, we were getting a present for Isaac and Josie's wedding shower tomorrow, and doing a bit of grocery shopping too. We were also picking up crullers, or at least cruller doughnuts. I was happy to find that the doughnut shop there off of Spouts Springs had a dozen crullers that I can use for the skit tomorrow. And while we found the registry item there in that same shopping center, I'm also pretty happy to say we don't live anywhere near there. The people in that area drive aggressive and crazy, and I think that's because the design of the shopping center parking lot. It's chaos. We were happy to get our stuff and get out of there as soon as we could. And that worked out with timing, because we got to Maddie just in time after a bit of grocery shopping, and together we all headed home.
Mom made spaghetti tonight, which was fantastic. She also had a salad with fruit on top of it, including some of our very own blueberries. It was delicious!
Maddie and I went back to Oz, or at leas the LEGO version, this time to find the Cowardly Lion, and then do some racing, and pick up a few more gold bricks. It's great to dive into a Oz some more, really soaking in that sort of atmosphere as we go through this series at KidPak. Tomorrow's going to be great.
Tonight was a big night - we watched "Black Widow" at home, paying the extra money for the early access the next few months. We weren't sure going to the movies, and ultimately this was less costly anyway, and finally, again we could have it on repeat viewings at home too. We may have Nana and Ye-Ye come over if they want to see it. Anyway, tonight we watched it, and we even had some popcorn ready.
The movie was good, although we were really longing to hear that whistle at the end after the credits. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. There has been quite a bit of Marvel material released lately! We may watch this one again soon. I know Maddie probably will, as she really liked it a lot.
Upstairs, we read tonight, and we said our prayers too. We got to bed a little earlier, as tomorrow will start out early. It was a nice day today!
