Rain Delay

Mommy was up earlier today and caught this sunrise, the beginning of another nice day at the beach today.  It was a fairly uneventful day - we were on the balcony, looking out at this view all day, just as we have all week.  Madison was reading and playing "Stardew Valley," while Daddy was reading "Dragon Teeth," another book written by Michael Crichton, sort of.  It was something he was working on earlier, and now it was put together and completed by others after his death.  It's an interesting story related to paleontology, but the cover is a bit misleading, suggesting that there might actually be something related to Jurassic Park within the covers.  Even the teeth that are uncovered are not actually those of a carnivorous creature, but instead an apatosaurus.  They're just called dragon teeth by one of the characters.  One of the most interesting things about the book is what is said afterwards, that some of these characters are in fact real people.  Wyatt and Morgan Earp are in the story, and we all know they are real.  But these other characters Cope and Marsh sound fairly interesting, a couple of ruthless paleontologists, determined to find the most fame and undercut the other in many nefarious ways.  Daddy's read two books this week, also completing the one about Thomas Jefferson and his efforts against the pirating in Tripoli.  Both good reads.  In fact, currently Ba-Ba is reading the Jefferson book right now.

Another thing going on is Wimbledon, which is something everyone watches in the morning a bit.  The afternoon featured a magnificent storm.

This storm swirled around us, the clouds within being pushed around in every direction.  You could see the spiraling going on, with clouds quickly moving with rotation directly above us.  It started out at Daytona, and cleared the beaches up north of us, but moved down and then out to see, dissipating there over time.  It took a while though.  We thought we were clear when we went off to see the Tortugas game later on in the evening.   Here we are, all seated and ready to go.

But it was not to be.  Behind us, inland, another amazing storm was pushing towards the ocean, and we were caught in the middle.  Underneath this huge roof, we still needed our umbrellas as an unforgettable storm blew in, the water flying in from behind and from the front and from the sides.  There was a decent amount of early arrivals here, and all of us huddled in umbrellas under the roof as the storm pummeled the Jackie Robinson ballpark for a good while.  We're talking within thirty minutes of this picture being taken, everything was doused, and these seats - again under a roof by at least eight or nine rows - were soaked.  Game time arrived, and Madison and Daddy enjoyed some food here, but then we were waiting to see if the rainstorm would stop.

It didn't.  We'll be back again tomorrow though!  We got home, and watched the movie "Epic" again, for the first time in several years.  We read from "Heir to the Empire," and had a quiet evening back at the condo.  It didn't work out for us tonight, but that's okay:  tomorrow they're giving away bobblehead dolls!
