Watermelon

Mommy makes the greatest watermelon sorbet in existence.  This isn't really debatable.  I know things like taste in visual art or food or music are more of a subjective topic, but in this case, it is actually 100% factual.  In fact, somewhere in the Ural Mountains, there is a small cave filled with records and information, and a guardian who watches over important information like this.  Carefully etched in this guardian's notations, Mommy's watermelon sorbet sits atop a list of all humanity's recipes and concoctions - for all time - as the greatest watermelon sorbet ever in existence.  Those who have the ability to time travel also have the luxury of knowing that this information will not change over time, as there is no one that can ever be born that will make a better watermelon sorbet.  In a way, this can be liberating to you as the reader:  don't worry about trying to do any better, because it is in fact impossible.

Notable here is another interesting factoid:  this dessert item is within the top five dessert items ever recorded in the entire known universe.  While there are factions that support the Crescent Nebula Parfait for its presentation and explosion of flavor, it's generally agreed upon throughout the galaxies that Mommy's watermelon sorbet is in fact somewhat - if only slightly - better.  This puts this dessert item handily in the top five.  There is some controversy over the fourth ranked item, a fruit cocktail created by the Monks of B'ommarr.  It can only be consumed by said monks, and we therefore just have to take their word for it.

Tonight we had the pleasure of having this watermelon sorbet.  Compared to other desserts, only a handful of people on this particular planet have tried it, but each one has immediately afterwards been converted, and agrees entirely:  this is easily one of the most incredible things you can have for dessert.

Mommy spends some time churning it all together, and the presentation is fairly simple.  That's the deceptive part.  Once you put this amazing creation in your mouth, your whole world changes.  It's that good.  You're reading this now, and perhaps there is a bit of doubt if you've never tried it before.  I'll put this as delicately as I can:  your doubt is wrong, and needs to be escorted off the premises of your mind, immediately.  Her watermelon sorbet is in fact that good.

This year, watermelon has been a huge part of our diet, a bigger part than in years past.  We're picky about our watermelons, and so therefore I can tell you with a certain degree of accuracy that this year's crop has been outstanding.  Of course, when you get watermelon, you have to get the watermelon with the seeds in it.  This may take some effort initially, but once you've gotten used to spitting out seeds, or digging them out, the end product makes for a special moment.  The three of us have been gnawing on watermelon all season long, and this is a sign that it is a good watermelon:  you eat it to the very rind.  You don't eat the rind, of course, but you know what I mean:  you eat right up to the rind (that part that isn't quite as red).  Usually, it's a bit chewy and not really something you even want to eat.  But with this year's crop, even that part of the watermelon is good!

Today was a bit of work.  Okay, a lot of work.  Daddy is trying to deal with the wonderful issue of real estate, or at least the issue of storage space.  We don't have any at KidPak, and we have someone donating us these marvelous props.  So what to do, hmmmm?  This is an ongoing challenge, and a somewhat stressful one, as we don't have much time to deal with it.  We want to get it, but don't have time or a place.  Yikes.

Meanwhile, Daddy has been asked to do something new this weekend:  take up the offering upstairs in the main sanctuary.  This is something he has never been asked to do, but this weekend will be a bit unusual, as in the main sanctuary, we're talking about the movie, "The Greatest Showman."  That being said, Daddy is dressing up as a ringmaster, and saying these words that he was writing up today:

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages!  It is my sincere honor to welcome you all to an experience you will never forget.  From those of you in prime spots up front, to those of you up there in the peanut gallery, we welcome you to see for yourself the Greatest Show of God’s love!  You may found your seats all over this sanctuary, but I guarantee you this:  you’ll only need… the edge!

We’re here not just to experience a show, but to experience who Jesus is.  And when you encounter Jesus, you also encounter his great love.  For there is no greater love than when someone gives their life for another.

It is the greatest show of love, but now we have an opportunity to show that same great love… through our giving!  So Free Chapel… ladies and gentlemen… boys and girls… are you ready?  It is time…. TO GIVE!"

There will probably be a whole lot more additions and modifications before the end of the week.  But there are other things to do too.  Like make even more dessert items!

Yes, it's also that time of year for Mommy to make her world famous patriotic cupcakes!  We're going to Nana and Ye-Ye's house tomorrow, and Mommy has these delicious cupcakes to bring, decorated for the holiday.  We'll have our traditional music with us, our patriotic shirts, and all the trimmings for a wonderful 4th of July.

Madison's 3rd of July was a little more subdued today, but fear not:  things will pick up!  We were doing some piano today, and some Stardew Valley - that's a game Daddy got for her.  There was a good deal of cleaning up to do today, and a battle with some cockroaches.  Our neighborhood is evidently swarming with these little beasties.  I'm not sure who invited them in, but each one is roughly the size of a garbage truck.  It's quite a stunning moment to turn and see this massive creature sitting there, staring at you - as if you're the one who is in the wrong place!

It was a quiet day today, and again a little stressful for Daddy with a few items.  But we're moving forward, and in that direction is a small "vacation" coming up...
