Winding Down the School Year

Here we go, running down the days until the end of school.  There are a few tests left to take, but this time of year is always so hectic with recitals and ceremonies and so forth.  We got a note telling us that one of Madison's pieces of art is on display at the school, and to come check it out tomorrow.  Also, she's going to be at a pretty extensive yearbook staff meeting soon enough as well.  There's also a day coming where she's getting her yearbook - just like all the other students - so that all the kids can sign each other's books and so forth.  I don't think I have a sixth grade yearbook, but I do have one for seventh grade, and that's the first one in a long line for Daddy's collection.  Madison has yearbooks going back to kindergarten, and reviews them from time to time, especially at the end of each year.

Daddy finished the Summer Xtreme skits for this year, finishing the writing part, and sending that all off to everyone to look at.  It's always such a ginormous burden off the shoulders to have that part done, and now he can focus on the squillion other details that go into the event of the summer.  It will be big this year - too big in some ways, which means we'll be meeting with people at the zoo, the pools and so forth, to see if they can accommodate our numbers, even divided up.  We'll see.  But other aspects of the week are falling into place too, such as our giveaways arriving, knapsacks, water bottles, and can you believe fanny packs?  Since when are fanny packs back in style again?  For some reason, everyone is super excited about fanny packs, and meanwhile people of our generation are thinking how goofy that looks, and geesh, what is that on you?  You look like a tourist.  But fashions change with the seasons, and here we are again with fanny packs, and everyone wants one.  I'm not sure if I'll get the courage to wear one ever again - we'll see!

Madison was playing piano at school, and it's always a shock for others to hear.  Some people have no idea about a certain person's skill level, and suddenly there it is on display.  She was playing "Stitches," and impressing a few others with her talent.  There's this piano in the common area that joins all the grades, and she sat down for a moment to tickle the ivories.  I always wanted to use that phrase, "tickle the ivories," and now I got to do it!  Yay me!

Madison had taekwondo tonight, and was on fire again.  She's got this berserker thing going on, a sort of speed sparring that sets a faster pace, and forces her opponents to think quicker.  She and a few of the guys were sparring, and she wasn't holding back.  Having gear on helps with that, but she's not afraid to take a hit, not that she gets as many as she used to.  She's developed a good talent for evading strikes and kicks, moving to the side, or swooping backwards.  She's never knocked down or losing balance either.  She's been doing well, even working on this follow-up kick in the air, tied together with a 1-2 punch combo immediately afterwards.  She's just like Chun Li!

We watched some Gravity Falls tonight, and continued our pastime of reading afterwards, from the devotional and from "The Bridge to Neverland."  After zerberts and prayer, it was time for another sweet good night.  These days glide by, and there's not much we can do to slow them down, other than stop occasionally and breathe deep the moment.  Sitting there at bed time helps tremendously, as we read together and talk just prior to sleep.  It's nice.
