Madison was really proud of the strike she got today! In the morning, all the kids at the middle school who had good behavior all year long were given a chance to go to Stars and Strikes. Over the years, we've been going there for Summer Xtreme, and even once outside of that last summer as well. In the early years, Madison and the younger ones weren't especially keen on going to the bowling alley portion, content to stay with the video games and even laser tag. But as of late, Madison has been happy to try out bowling, and even over the past few weeks anxious to return to the alleys. This is not to say she's an expert, of course. I think the end results of her game had her right in the middle of the pack as far as final scores go. But bowling allows you that luxury, when you combine a tiny bit of skill and luck, of getting a strike, nearly the equivalent of a home run in the game. Madison was exultant returning home today, boasting about her triumphant moment. It was unassisted, and quite worth celebrating. We'll be returning there soon enough for Summer Xtreme, of course.
Daddy was out with the others at KidPak, scoping out an alternative destination for bowling and video games, and while this other place was bigger, there was an open bar there that they wouldn't close, because apparently people are hitting the bar at 9:00 am, which is odd. One bright side of it all was that this place was treating us to their food, which was quite a bit! Like I said, the place was bigger and better - but there were a few issues that prevented us from shifting there, so we'll stay with Stars and Strikes.
One other issue that was making us consider other options was that Browns Bridge Road has been a construction zone of late. Unmentioned here over the past two years has been the constant construction going on with several bridges over Lake Lanier. It's been a slow process, hindered by the amount of rain we've had lately. But a few of the bridges have been completed over on Dawsonville Highway and further down on Browns Bridge Road between here and 400. The big bridge itself, Browns Bridge, is apparently part of the "saving the best for last" strategy. The new bridge looks to be a monster project, something going on for quite some time. It's a massive undertaking, one I could not even begin to envision where to start with. But slowly but surely, progress is being made each day. And further down, there's another bridge closer to us that is seeing quicker progress as well, in fact that one is nearly completed. Each day, you don't know what the traffic is like on these roads, due to transporting materials and so forth. It's been a thing we've gotten used to. These bridges have been a part of our history here for so long, in fact so long that they all actually expired. Apparently bridges have expiration dates, like Twinkies. From what I understand, these bridges actually expired a year or two ago, so this is a good thing to do now. But it's sort of what Madison is growing up seeing as she crosses the lake each time. We go over a few bridges all the time - the lake is a part of her scenery growing up.
Tonight was KidPak, and another message - although shorter due to time constraints. But it was a good night. All the kids are so full of energy because of the proximity of summer break. Lots to be excited about! Madison is happy about it too, although she really does love school. There are a few things going on with testing next week, but other than that, it seems as if we're really winding down. Yearbook day is coming up, and a big yearbook staff meeting is also on the horizon. Other activity days are there too. Less than two weeks to go!
Daddy read earlier tonight, reading from our Neverland book, and nearly finishing it, in fact. We're close to ending this chapter, literally and figuratively, and about to move to a new book series, having done this one since nearly the beginning of the year. We've done a few consecutive book series now, and it might be good to do a few ones that aren't connected to any further sequels. We'll see how that goes - Madison has several books she wants to do, as do we.
We said our prayers tonight, and also read from our "Prayer of Jabez" booklet too, adding that prayer to the nightly routine. It was a decent day, although there are looming issues for Mommy and Daddy to pray with extra fervency about. Still, life is good. Sitting out on the front porch in beautiful weather like this, reading, typing, just listening to the birds and complaining squirrels... it's nice out there on the front porch, a place to be still and remember that God has it all figured out already.
