Twisters

One of the more surprising movies to hear about was a sequel to "Twister," a movie that came out in 1996.  Yes, I saw that in theaters back then, and of course several times since then, including prep for our "Storm Chasers" series we've done at KidPak.  There really aren't too many great storm chaser movies, and of course "Twister" really set the standard for its time.  There was a made-for-movie called "Tornado!" that was pretty decent too, and now there's this one to add to the list.  The three of us really enjoyed it.  I think the bar wasn't terribly high, and you actually don't need to have seen the previous movie at all to enjoy this one.  I think there's maybe one connection, perhaps.  Maybe a few other small Easter eggs too.  Otherwise, it's just a fun flick, and again, we came out of the theater all agreeing that we were glad to have seen it.  Not that we're going to do any storm chasing, of course.

It was a slow news day.  We did some chores while we were out, just a few, but otherwise it was a quiet day.  Mom and I spent some reading and relaxing on the front porch, and we were also doing some chores around the house too.  We did sleep in, but I was up on the treadmill, walking in Yellowstone today.  I've enjoyed this series of travels to the West.  I really miss it.

Maddie and I also did some Tropical Freeze levels today, working forward towards the end.  Getting closer!  And of course, there were the Olympic tonight.  We saw the American win the shot put (and get silver too!).  And there was the pummel horse, swimming, and some track and field too.  Time goes by quickly - the Olympics are about halfway over with now, but it's been fun to watch together.  Maddie's enjoying the synchronized diving, still going on, and the gymnastics, of course.  There have been a few memes here or there, and some epic moments, plus a lot of emotional moments too.  There are always great stories during the Olympics.

Speaking of stories, Maddie and I read tonight again, continuing a short story about a stormtrooper ready to turn over a new leaf on Endor.  It has an ambivalent ending, but the main character is certainly repentant and willing to face the consequences of her actions while wanting to start over.  Interesting story, in any event.  And after that, time for prayers - and sleep.  We have a unique service tomorrow, so it's time for some rest.  Goodnight!
