A Boring Day

Maddie had the alarm set, and sure enough, we got out that door earlier this morning to head to school.  This was after doing our usual picture, and then prayers.  Maddie had a "boring day," she said, which is a nice way of saying it was mostly teachers explaining the year, or perhaps getting started a little early.  Her math class should be easier, she feels, and meanwhile there's a history class that looked at the top fifteen most historically inaccurate movies.  Number one would be Disney's "Pocahontas," which doesn't make it any less of a great movie.  I wonder why "Anastasia" didn't get higher in ranking, given that it features Rasputin using magical powers to take down the royal family, and in fact coming back from the dead to go after a princess that in reality probably didn't survive at all.  Oh, and there's a talking bat with a midwestern accent.  In Pocahontas' corner, we have a talking tree, people singing about the colors of the wind, and of course the inaccurate age difference between John Smith and Pocahontas.  But I think Anastasia has the edge on being a bit more inaccurate!

Anyway, her other classes are... well... I dunno.  Something about advanced visual arts.  It's more advanced than regular visual arts, which means ... I'm not sure.  We'll find out soon enough!

Tonight, Maddie had taekwondo, of course.  I do know that.  We'll have more on this day in a bit, including a viewing of rowers winning at the Olympics.  I went to see Olympic rowing some time ago in Atlanta.  Very blessed to see that - it was fun.  It was hot too!

We did watch some of the Olympics tonight, including the qualifying for the shot put, and the men's rowing.  We saw some swimming too, plus synchronized diving.  Lots of different things - we're sort of glued to the televisions during the Olympics.  It helps take your mind off of other things.

Tonight we read, of course, and we said our prayers.  And after that, a good night's rest.  Tomorrow we get to sleep in a bit, and that will be nice.
