Today was Madison's first Mary Kay meeting. Daddy's too. Our friend Camille was debuting herself as a Mary Kay consultant, and we were happy to drop by for a bit to support her. Of course, with our temporary one-car situation, that meant that Daddy was there too with Mommy and Madison. It wasn't all that bad. There were other captive dads and husbands there to hang out with, and crack jokes with. When we got there, we gave Camille our Wilson the Volleyball antenna topper, as she's apparently a big fan of Wilson the Volleyball. Who isn't?
Anyway, that was a good part of our afternoon. Madison was trying different creams and hearing words like 'hydrating' and 'exfoliating,' while Daddy and the guys were eating snacks and making jokes about men's fragrances that smell like bacon.
It was a full afternoon, but this morning was a very full one: we had our annual yard sale. Madison was ever the salesperson, leading complete strangers to her clothing rack to tell them about certain bits of clothing and how inexpensive they were. Ultimately, people wound up buying the things Madison brought them to, because you'd be stupid if you didn't. True story.
We wound up selling a lot of stuff, as usual. It's a big annual yard sale, where a lot of folks come to the neighborhood to check out the things on sale. The rain this week limited the amount of folks that came by, but we were still quite satisfied with things in the end. It seemed to play out very well. One time, Madison and Daddy spent time setting up a Thomas the Train set, and had a bit of fun playing with it - just to see if we could sell it quicker that way. Sure enough, we got it going pretty quickly.
Madison was so social, introducing herself to all sorts of new people walking up. Her bus driver came by to visit us - it turns out he lives nearby and was bringing his parents around the yard sales. We also met a few other teachers from the school too - Madison was suddenly shy around those.
So as you can imagine, the rain stopped for a bit this morning. It drizzled a bit - just small drops of rain under the sun. But that was about it this morning. BUT… the bottom dropped out later on. More rain.
The rest of the day was work at the church, preparing for the big day tomorrow. We have a couple of things to do for prep, including a song from the Platters: "I'm Sorry." It'll be pretty fun, actually! We used to sing a lot of Platters songs back in high school - of course, they were a long time before our time.
Madison did a lot of piano practice this morning, with some catching up to do. Lots of catching up to do, actually. We've just been busy lately. But she's done well this weekend, and will of course have a ways to go with her recital song. We'll keep going with that though. Madison is determined to get it right though, so she keeps on going with practice.
So back to work tonight. Lines to memorize and so forth - Madison is in bed, along with Mommy. Everyone got up early today, as it was the big yard sale. So everyone's a bit tired. It's all good though - we had a great day today!
Here's the next entry for the devotional: this one is about lithium.
“God gave us his
Spirit. And the Spirit doesn’t make us weak and fearful. Instead, the Spirit
gives us power and love. He helps us control ourselves.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NIrV
LITHIUM
Li 3
Here’s an element
you can’t do without. Lithium may sound
like the name of a planet from outer space, but it is actually an element. In fact, it’s the third element on the Table
of Elements, right after Hydrogen and Helium.
So what is
it? It’s a metal, soft and
silver-white. And why is it so important
to us? Batteries. If you have a hand-held gaming system, or a
cell phone, or a laptop computer, then it’s time to give God praise for
lithium!
Seriously, this
is a metal that can give you power – but only after you charge it up. It contains the power you need to get the job
done! But don’t forget that from time to
time you have to plug it in.
That’s how we
operate too. We can’t go too long on our
own power without getting plugged in somewhere.
If you want to get a positive charge, you’ve got to open that Bible,
you’ve got to pray, and you’ve got to be at church. God is the ultimate source of power, and when
we get plugged in with Him, the effects can be electrifying!
So bolt over to
church, charge over to that nearest Bible, and get amped up about prayer. Stay plugged in. You’ll be energized, and filled with some
real power!
