Today was a busy Wednesday - we had a great night with resourcefulness as our bottom line, and a skit about a character named Wai Poo Poo. He was a terrible villain, with an equally terrible name. But don't worry, he was foiled in the end by some resourceful villagers. Daddy dipped back into early memories with this one, thinking of an old story about a giant wanting to level a town. He walked into a cobbler, who showed him all these shoes in a bag. Somehow, he convinces the dim giant that it takes so long to walk to the town that he's worn out all of these shoes just from walking. Discouraged, the giant turns around, and presumably gives up. Or levels a different town. The point is, the cobbler was resourceful and clever, and saves the day.
So it rained today. This is a pattern we're stuck in, apparently for another few days too. It's not just a light rain though - this is a pouring sort of rain that will not stop coming down upon us. Meanwhile, other states are suffering from a lack of water, and I believe it is safe to say that we're probably suffering from too much of it. Hopefully we can even things out.
Mommy got Daddy a new Kingdom Keepers book, one signed by the author. It came in the mail today, the latest in the adventures that go back eight books or so. Eventually, these might be read by Madison, but for the time being, Daddy is sharing the stories with her verbally - a sort of recap of each story (from his limited memory). Each morning, we talk about different stories on the way to school, although recently Madison has been wanting to hear more and more about her very own superhero, Flower Girl from the Future. For some reason, this character has stuck more than the others. I have no idea why the X-Men had fascinated her so, but there it is. She loves hearing stories about her with the other X-Men, from serious adventures versus major super villains to pranks on April Fool's Day or Easter Egg hunts at Xavier's mansion. Soon, Daddy will probably get Josh to design a costume for Flower Girl, so we can keep the idea alive. She's a pretty powerful little hero, one we might chronicle later here. Madison has a great imagination, almost like in a role playing game when dealing with villains and tight squeezes. Her imagination gets active, and she's ready to do battle - or pull pranks.
It has gotten so that our rides are basically handheld device free. That is to say, we either tell stories - or read them from the "Weird School" books. Madison is always reading, and it won't be long before she's read the entire series of books in that line. Also at night, we're still reading "Anna and Elsa," although we only have the first two books of that series right now. Aunt Shain may have picked up part three, but we'll keep that a secret, okay?
It was a good day for Madison, who also spent time doing her spelling test and math assignments. No problem on math whatsoever. No challenge getting the number of problems she needs to in a short time. And not even flinching when it comes to the spelling test. This week's words ended with 'ion,' like 'action' and 'nation.' Not even a challenge there.
We are so blessed and favored with these aspects of her learning. And of course, her speech is improving daily. And finally, she's just a wonderful girl. We can't wait to see her come home from school each day!
Here's the next devotional entry, by the way. We keep on plugging forward on these!

“No one has greater love than the one
who gives their life for their friends.” John 15:13 NIrV
KRYPTON
Kr 36
Krypton is a
perfect element. It is a noble gas,
which means it has everything it needs, and won’t naturally combine with any
other element. It’s a perfect gas,
usually found in the atmosphere, flying high above it all.
Now admit
it: when thinking of Krypton, you can’t help
but think of Superman. He’s from the
planet Krypton, and like the element, the guy is pretty noble – always serving
others. He’s the perfect hero! Nobody can hurt him, and his thoughts are
always on saving people from trouble.
His most famous
weakness is kryptonite, of course. But
there is an even greater weakness that Superman has: people.
In comics, television, and the movie screen, he always sacrifices his
time, his energy, and his life to save us all.
If this sounds
familiar, it should. Jesus has no
weakness, but he has a love for us that was so great that he sacrificed his
time, energy and life to save us all.
The great news, of course, is that Jesus conquered death. Incredible!
He is the real super man, the one who loved us so much that he thought
of us first, and saved us all.
You can’t get
much more noble than that.
