Tonight we await the epic plunge that is looming. We've made all those preparations, listed yesterday, and now we just sit inside and wait for it to come. Daddy went outside once today, and it didn't take long for his skin to start freezing - with the windchill, it felt like below zero. The temperature said eight degrees, and it is supposed to be even colder tomorrow morning. So we sit inside now, looking out at the trees swaying from the high winds, and listening for cracks and groans of the the frigid world out there: the Polar Vortex is here.
Madison and Daddy imagined a story with Queen Elsa, Frozone, the Snow Miser, Mr. Freeze, Captain Cold, Jack Frost, Iceman, and Tinker Bell's sister, Periwinkle. They were all visiting Georgia today for a big meeting, mainly because they were all tired of meeting at the North Pole. On Wednesday, their meeting should wrap up - we'll see some downright balmy temperatures in the 40's by then.
Here's a stat from today's forecast. It's a weather event that has captured most of our country. Obviously, those north of us are colder, but not much. It's all relative, really, as the entire nation is frozen.
It's such an eerie feeling these nights, just listening to the world around you groan. We're all under blankets and double layers of clothing just in case we go outside. But for the most part, we didn't.
Madison was playing with her dolls, and of course there was Disney Infinity. Today was a scheduled day off, the last day of Winter Break for the kids. It's a good thing we checked the calendar: we thought initially that the kids were going back to school today, "weather" or not. Daddy made this same exact mistake two years ago. But this time, we found out before actually getting up early and driving her to school.
Mommy and Daddy did some cleaning around the house, and some preparation for the upcoming series at KidPak - but we didn't do that much today. This may be a weather-related thing, but all of us just felt like staying inside and watching something, or playing a game or something. Madison is still fasting television, so that was out - so back to Disney Infinity a bit. We've played nothing else since Christmas.
Tomorrow, there is no school. It was cancelled because of the extreme cold. I'm personally okay with this, as it is the safest choice when you consider the things that could happen out there. There are those that are complaining, and in fact we ourselves used to go to school in very cold weather circumstances. But why not err on the side of caution?
So today was the coldest day that Madison has ever experienced. She didn't go out in it though - we never really let her, and she didn't really want to anyway. We opened the door from time to time to do things like go get the mail. Oh - and it did snow at one point: flurries from above, even with a sunny sky. But that's about it as far as her experience with the weather went today.
Here's our second day of the fasting journal:

Read today’s Bible story in Matthew 4:18-22. What kind of fishers did Jesus say He would
make Andrew and Peter, and what does that mean?
