It was the last day of the year, and we didn't get out much today either. Daddy did go to get the most brutal flu shot of his life though. It was a bloody flu shot, one that concerned the nurse very little. I mean, she saw the blood streaming down my arm, and simply slaps a bandaid on the source as if that will plug the leak or something. I'm in my car, and I had to take off my sweater so it wouldn't get blood all over it!
I took a picture of it when I got home, but it's a bit too graphic to show here.
What else did we do today? The library. We had to return those books! But Madison and Daddy did just that, and used self-control by not getting any more books for now. But we'll be back again some day. Just like Frosty the Snowman.
We did a bit of cleaning today, as the DeSantafication Process has begun. But not that much, really. We still have our trees up, because they look nice. Also, Madison got her latest Lego Magazine in today, so she spent a little bit of time reading that. She also has some Tag books from Christmas, but we had to go get some triple A batteries for the pen to work. Ever frugal, we found a great deal that gave us about twelve or so... for free. Yay, us!
So the hours of 2013 were drawing short, and it was time to celebrate New Year's Eve, right?
Unfortunately, our traditional destination tonight was off limits due to illness. Our friends Abbie and Rachel were struggling with some of the same symptoms we had a few weeks ago: coughing, fever and so forth. So we postponed that, in order to do it again sometime later this month hopefully.
So the question was, "What are you doing New Year's Eve?"
Well, let it never be said we don't know how to party! All you need for a good New Year's Eve is "Rudolph's Shiny New Year," Disney Infinity and shrinky dinks! We opted for the quiet night at home, and the challenge to Madison to see if she could make it until midnight. Would she? We'll see soon enough...
First order of business: shrinky dinks. Yes, we did shrinky dinks tonight. That's how to party, I tell you! Mommy, Daddy and Madison each decorated our Monsters University themed shrinky dinks. Madison chose Don Carleson, because he's such a hip character. Daddy likes the monster named Art a lot, although Mommy got to color that one in. Daddy took Sully and a few others, and soon enough we were watching them through the oven door. Within three minutes, they curl, and then flatten out afterwards into their tiny final shape. This was fun! Mommy and Daddy have never done shrinky dinks before, so we're glad to have done that before the new year set in!
You can see our tiny shrinky dinks there above, along with a picture that Madison drew to celebrate the evening. This is art!
The next order of business: Rudolph's Shiny New Year and popcorn. This is the only New Year's Special that I know of for kids, outside of the 100 Acre Wood cartoon: "A Very Merry Pooh Year." Daddy wanted to go with Rudolph though, and so did Madison. It's a fun vintage animation to watch, and great to see Rudolph in another adventure. We sat on the couch with our buttery popcorn and watched the brave travelers once again attempt to save a new year's baby named Happy.
Next order of business: Disney Infinity. This game is incredible. You can download other people's entire worlds. Each week, a category is announced, and everyone submits their ideas for a world that fit that category. The top five are chosen, and made available to all. This week's theme was a New Year theme, so Madison and Daddy got to go to five different toy boxes that have a New Year theme, some of them with a big HAPPY 2014 written in ginormous letters at the end. One actually fit the "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" theme, as our characters had the goal of going back through time to find objects in different lands from different time periods. Lots of fun, and all related to the New Year. And, she got to use her new disc that she earned earlier, too. That one was Carl Fredricksen's cane - the one with the tennis balls at the end? I really want one of those in 2014...
So did Madison make it to midnight? Yes, she did. We went upstairs and watched the live broadcast from ABC this year, although for only the last two minutes or so. Daddy, Mommy and Madison saw the ball drop and counted down the final seconds of 2013 together. At the end, of course there were plenty of fireworks and lots of confetti on Times Square. And there were kisses too - Madison smooched Daddy and Mommy, who kissed each other as well, as 2014 kicked in. Mommy explained earlier about getting a kiss at New Year's, and Madison was quick to comply!
And then, we were all just as quick to go to sleep! The fireworks were going off all around our house, pretty much as they have all night long, but we were pretty tired tonight. We said our prayers together, thanking God for a wonderful 2013, and praying for peace and joy in 2014.
Happy New Year!
