In fact, this is the same exact size and shape gingerbread house that we've used the last three holidays. True story! Why did we have three of the same gingerbread house just sitting around? Basically, we had three of these houses leftover from a big purchase of them last Spring. We were doing our Storm Chasers series, and there's this great skit we were doing at different campuses, one that involved three different gingerbread houses in one skit. We were illustrating what happens to the house not built on solid rock, and you can imagine what happens next. Let's just say in one instance, it involves Maddie and Mjölnir. So I found them at a local store at a very inexpensive price, and got enough for all the church campuses. And since the cost was so low, I just went ahead and bought three extra ones for us to use later. We used the first one in October for our Spooky Gingerbread House, and then made one at Christmastime as well. And now there's this one here, our final one, the one I've been waiting to do for Valentine's Day!
Maddie and I were working on this one this afternoon. We had "Encanto" playing in the background, but each of us took two sides, and worked together on the roofing. We had three different icing colors, plus conversation hearts (we had to wait to open the bags of those, as the entire bag tends to disappear very quickly in our house - literally, we went through an entire bag today!). We also got some chocolate covered heart-shaped pretzels, and tiny heart-shaped hard candies as well. The end product looks fantastic!
Maddie did a great job with her side, while all the while I was diligently working on the opposite side of the house. It's just a sweet looking house, and really distinctive, which is to say it really says Valentine's Day in the same way the others say Christmas and Halloween. I'm super proud of hot it came out!
One last look - this is Maddie's side here. I'm proud of her for not eating every single conversation heart. That's will power there. Seriously, I've been wanting to do this for a few years now, and now that it's done, I'm pretty happy with the end result. It was so much fun putting together, with Mom getting it all lined up and Maddie and I carefully putting all the pieces and icing in place.
The other thing today was KidPak, of course. The service went really well this morning, another skit in the Get a Clue series ongoing with a mystery and Sherlock Holmes. The Baker Street Irregulars met up with the master sleuth and a new visitor, the one and only Irene Adler.
Maddie did fantastic, as did all the other actors. I was so happy to have so many young actors on stage, and there were plenty of great jokes that had the audience laughing quite frequently. Along with the skits, there was a great game segment, a classic video, and a perfect message about taking off the disguise and not being duplicitous, like Neville St. Clair.
This is a series of doodles one of our young cast members created, different head shots of the different cast members and people on stage. It was interesting enough that I kept it around and scanned it too.
The rest of the day was easy, as we were watching the Olympics - the United States isn't having the greatest start ever, but at least we do have a couple silver medals. Still, there's plenty of engaging programming on. We were watching the giant slalom, some curling, and even some luge. Maddie was getting a shower tonight, but when we were all ready for bed, it was time for more reading from "The Syndrome," which had a great escape via a unforeseen twist, and perhaps a looming headache for our future characters too. We'll keep plowing ahead tomorrow night, but this book has been a fun read.
Afterwards, we said our prayers, and not long after that, we were asleep tonight from a pretty full day.
