Cedar Waxwing

We had some visitors to the bird feeder, some travelers that were largely just interested in the new water dish that Mom put out this week.  It's a small pole with three dishes that attach to it, each with bird seed or water in them.  We've had the usual visitors, but this sudden appearance of birds to our back porch was a pleasant surprise.

We looked these up in a bird guide book and we've determined that these are cedar waxwings, and as you can tell, these like to travel in tight groups.  We sat there admiring the group of a good bit, snapping a few photos along the way.

Oh, and our bluebirds are here a lot too lately, and that's a pleasant thing to see for Mom, who loves the bluebirds so much.

It was a long day at school for Maddie today, this because she had play practice tonight for "Suessical," which had her at school until around 6:50 or so.  She was pretty wiped out coming home.  Fortunately, tomorrow is a day off, and that will be a chance to sleep in and catch up on some rest.

We were planning a bit today, writing for this weekend and also for tomorrow night for a KidPak event Friday night for families.  We had plans to do a vacation tomorrow, with Uncle George coming in to give us a bit of a break, but that fell through and we'll have to do that a bit later.

We didn't have time for a movie tonight, so we were watching some of the Olympics again, including the women's figure skating, which was just brutal.  The very last routine, and what followed, was just an awful thing to watch.  Clearly something needs to change somewhere.  I explained it to Maddie later that a certain country's training was pretty much like the Black Widow program, minus all hand-to-hand combat.  Or, at least I don't think so.

Anyway, it was a decent day.  We read tonight, and we said our prayers afterwards.  It's going to be a later night again tomorrow.  Maddie will have a long day too, although she gets to sleep in, which is always great.
