2-22-2022

This might be a more momentous day than we ever thought, although time will tell.  Of course, the date itself is 2-22-2022.  Lots of two's there.  But there is war in Eastern Europe, and it has all kinds of bad potential.  We're keeping our eyes on the situation there, but it's as if the old Evil Empire has returned, or at least awakened from a long slumber.  Through the years, we've always heard that it was never really gone, but longing for those days where once again it could rise.  Or at least its leadership was longing for that.  That might have seemed laughable for a while - to quote a former President, "The 80's called.  They want their foreign policy back."  But apparently, the quite fear lurking in the back of all our minds is in fact a reality.  The Evil Empire never went away, and the events of today could really change everything.

So what did we do on 2-22?  Not much.  We did have a meeting tonight to go over Maddie's upcoming trip to Disney, which I can't believe is right here upon us.  It was a meeting at the school, a place I haven't been inside since the last play, and yet I'll be here again on both Friday and Saturday of this week too to see Maddie's other Dr. Seuss play that she's involved in.  I certainly wish I could do a trip like Disney, or at least relax a bit, but that's not our lot in life currently.  I'm just super happy that Maddie has a chance to escape from all this and have a great time in the land of Mickey Mouse.  We've been doing a lot of reading from Kingdom Keepers, and I'm going to miss reading the next week when she's gone.  I'm going to miss a lot of other things too, of course, but again, I'm super happy she can go and have a great time.

I was a teacher again today, once again with the college students teaching them about writing skits of all things.  I'll also be back in the college next week and some time later after that.  It's fun getting in front of the college students again.

Tonight we were watching Wheel of Fortune, the same episode repeated on the streaming channel that usually has the news, and Nana likes that show.  But she didn't realize it was the same exact show back to back, and it never occurred to her that we actually just watched the same exact episode, and were able to guess every move, every spin, every word, and every phrase well ahead of time.  She thought we were all geniuses.  It was like that scene from "Groundhog Day," and pretty funny from a certain point of view.  We weren't mean about it, and in fact everyone was enjoying the viewing together on the couch.  We were just enjoying git in different ways...

Mom has been laying out some fancy meals for the opossums now, and it's been somewhat of a daily visit each night.  I asked her what do we do when the bears start coming, and as weird as that may seem, it is actually a possibility.  Bears have been sighted in our neighborhood, and recently too.  I think the moment we see a bear is the moment all this stops, of course.  I doubt we'll even see one, but you never know, right?

So tonight we were reading the Kingdom Keepers before bed, and there was a bit of a ghost story involved, one Maddie recognized right away with the five victims of the Tower of Terror incident.  It's fun seeing all this get incorporated.  I'm not sure if she'll ride the Tower of Terror or not next week, as she wasn't a big fan the first time.  She's older now, and might enjoy it more.  I've always loved it.

We said our prayers tonight, and first and foremost we were praying for Ukraine.  What a mess, and how easily the world can get sucked into this madness.  We prayed for peace, and then got to sleep.
