Labor Day 2017

Here's a good portion of the family over at Ye-Ye and Nana's house this afternoon to celebrate Labor Day.  It wasn't so much a day to celebrate anything in particular.  I mean, labor?  That's why we're all holding implements in these photos, "implements of labor."  Of course, we had to do the standard "American Gothic" pose:

And then there was an odd pose too, where we're all holding these objects and making odd poses with them.

It was a fun time there this afternoon, with food and lots of talking.  We were catching up about all sorts of things, from David's toe situation (they are seriously waiting for it to just "fall off") to cataloguing Ye-Ye's amazing rock collection.  Madison went with Ye-Ye and Daddy and Mommy to see this impressive collection of rocks and minerals, inspired by our recent trip to the museum in Cartersville.  We were looking at all kinds samples from all over the world, collected over the years and displayed on shelves just like at a museum.

Earlier in the day, we were at the square in Gainesville supporting small businesses.  Only a few of those small businesses weren't open.  Seriously, Anastasia's Tea Room said it was open online, so we drove all the way to town to check it out.  And discovered that it is not open.  The same thing happened with a book store on the square as well.  Fortunately, there was this clothing store on the square, and it was there that Mommy and Madison spent quite a bit of time doing girl clothing shopping.  It's a dad's worst nightmare.  He just had a cell phone, and nothing to do but wait, and hope it wouldn't go on and on.  It did a little, but Madison was having a great time trying on clothing and picking her own stuff.  She's got something to wear for a future cruise, should we be going on one.

Which brings us to Irma.  And Jose.  Both of these are storms that plan on wreaking havoc upon the Caribbean, or the Gulf of Mexico at least.  We still don't know exactly where Irma is going to make landfall in regards to the US mainland, but there are several islands like Puerto Rico that are definitely on high alert right now.  Florida is on high alert as well, the governor issuing a state of emergency.  And the spaghetti models (those are the models that show the different potential paths a hurricane might take) are showing the probability that this hurricane could be coming up to Atlanta, and then to us.  It probably won't be a hurricane at that time, but still.  Madison has yet to experience a hurricane - there were a few before her arrival.  Katrina came by us, and destroyed the place that Daddy used to work at.  But we haven't seen too many storms of that caliber here in quite some time. All that could change rather soon.

Tonight we read from our book again, about Jay and the Descendants, and from our devotional.  And then Daddy read to Mommy tonight - we're continuing with "Hollow City," which is creepy seasonal material to be reading.

And then it was time for bed.  We're pretty tired today, despite sleeping in and despite having a restful few days here.  It's setting in, and we've got some catching up to do.  Goodnight!
