Juggling and Fabergé Eggs

Lots of juggling schedules today!  This afternoon KidPak went to Hebron Christian Academy once more for our now annual visit, which took a bit of time to set up, but it was certainly a lot of fun for the kids.  Moving the speakers and equipment was tough though, because the weather is so hot outside.  Yes, summer is letting us know what was supposed to be happening all these past few months - it was supposed to be hot.  This was a pretty mild summer.

But it's ending strong - and hot - with some upper 80's/low 90's temperatures, which were really felt today as we were lugging around heavy equipment!

The trees are still on Ye-Ye and Nana's house, but the branches are coming off now.  And the trees are coming off the top of the house tomorrow, so things are moving along just fine, thank you.  It's been a tremendous season for storms, with hopefully the last big thing happening this week.  Puerto Rico was devastated.  These adjectives don't quite cover the amount of horror that this island is going through.  And St. Croix, and Dominica, and those Virgin Islands.  Ye-Ye and Nana were directly affected, and will be rebuilding over the next few weeks.  A contractor mentioned twelve weeks, which would be about Christmas time.  We'll plan on a great Christmas then.  Until then, they're living with us in our house, and we're just fine with that.

We had all kinds of driving today, with jazz and ballet for Madison, and then a parent-teacher meeting for Mommy at the school, and Daddy going down to Dacula, Georgia for this event.  Okay, before moving on, can we all just agree that Dacula needs the letter "r" in it?  It needs to be "Dracula."  They go on to even pronounce it wrong:  Da-CU-la.  No, folks.  It should be DA-cula.  Moo-ah-ah-ah!

Anyway, Madison had fun dancing, and Mommy was seeing some of the progress that Madison has been making in school.  Early testing for math put her right in the middle, but these are assessment tests that judge how far the kids will be going this year.  We're okay with her being right where she is - it's how far she goes each year that really counts, and we'll be helpful partnering with her teachers in getting her as far as we can.  Without being too pushy, of course.  That's always such a fine line, isn't it?

It was a late night getting home, so we pretty much went right to bed after we got home.  We read some more from our Nancy Drew book - it's an intriguing case that started out with zucchinis getting squashed, but now someone is missing a fabergé egg!  This in turn led to a discussion about fabergé eggs, and all of us looking at a few examples online.  Anyway, Madison learned about them tonight.

This is about all I ever knew about fabergé eggs.  James Bond used one at one point.  Other than that, I'm not entirely sure why you would want to make a golden decorated egg.  It seems like all they ever do is get stolen!

Hopefully Nancy Drew will help out her new neighbor.  We'll see!
