Today is Friday, and Nana and Ba-Ba are resting, given the epic drive that they endured yesterday. Madison didn't get to see them until later on tonight, even though we were all in the same house. Lots and lots of folks are evacuating Florida as we speak, as tomorrow night is the time this storm is supposed to strike the southern most parts. The forecast keeps adjusting, as eventually this storm is supposed to take a ninety degree right turn, and head due north towards... us. Obviously, we're keeping an eye on that forecast, as is much of the country. And then there's this other hurricane Jose, and the idea that a hurricane behind that could form, one named Lee.
Meanwhile, there are dramatic fires in the west, ones that take up many, many square miles of land. They're begging for rain. And in Mexico there was an 8.0 earthquake.
It seems to be a September thing, all this judgment. Or, it could be that the dry hot air from Africa is mixing with damp cool air of the lower Atlantic, stirring up storms with rotation that build from the energy of the heat and ocean each hurricane season. Some folks are blaming the eclipse, and others saying it is a judgment upon us all.
I don't know any of this of course. A nice little scripture to hang your hat on is "it rains on the just and the unjust." Also followed by the entire book of Job, which basically explains that "we're not God." That alone frees us from trying to understand things that we can never understand. The problem with us is that we want to understand everything. But some things you cannot understand because, as stated above, we're not God. Therefore, we simply let it go, and trust in the Lord with all our hearts, and don't lean on our own understanding. Because when things like this happen, it's impossible to understand everything.
Today was a big work day for Daddy, and a big school day for Madison. She didn't do as well on a recent Literature assignment, but she does have a chance for a retake. In order to do the retake, she has to do a bunch of homework this weekend, but she says she's all over that. We went over the mistakes, and the grade was a 79, so it wasn't that bad. But she wants to do better, and this time I think she will. The problem may be in reading the questions a little more slowly, and taking her time. She has a tendency to rush through things a bit.
Her piano is going well - it doesn't seem to be as much of a chore to do the various practice as it was last year. We give her these Disney pins for a week of practice, one pin for a week's practice as a small reward. Madison's been drawing from this old bag that Daddy had, one from the movie "Maleficent." Inside it are a bunch of pins that we've accumulated, some from Nana and Ye-Ye's collection. She reaches in and randomly draws out one per week - the last two weeks, she's pulled out pirate pins, to much celebration. She loves the pirates, and she loves Disney.
Which again reminds us that Disney World itself is under the radar, a target in line for this storm. We'll see how things go there. Florida is bracing for something big. The main interstates are flooded with cars and traffic. It was bad before, but now it's severely clogged as everyone evacuates the entire state. First the east coast thought it was under the gun, and now the west coast does. The forecast keeps shifting. All along though, Georgia seems to be a destination for the rainfall and wind. How bad it will be, we'll just have to wait and see. School may be closed on Monday. We might even have ballet cancelled. Then you know things are serious!
