Madison woke up to a surprise! The Tooth Fairy did in fact come, and to her really great surprise, there was a LEGO gift set waiting for her! Somehow, the Tooth Fairy had gotten the character Madison had made in LEGOland, Florida. And a few other items, like a LEGO pencil sharpener too. And the Tooth Fairy brought those items to Madison, all in exchange for her tooth. What a surprise to see her figure - one she thought she wouldn't see again. And now, right here in Georgia! It was a good way to start the morning!
Tonight we began our new series, "Fore!" You could say the title was partly inspired by Huey Lewis and the News, although there's something great about just yelling out the phrase randomly, even with a hint of aggression. As you can see in the picture above, we had our mini-golf game set up on the stage tonight, with prizes on the line for our winners. We did give away gift cards to the local mini-golf course, and we'll give away more as the month goes on. We did our message, "The Masters" as well. This one gave us an opportunity to use the green jacket we had down the hall - Daddy made a patch for the thing, a patch that looks like it came from Augusta's tournament, as we talked about passing on the mantle. And of course, we talked about "iron sharpens iron," where we talked about partnering up with the right people in life. Of yes, with irons, we spoke briefly about choosing the right golf club for the course. Which leads us to the mashie niblick.
I posted a picture of a mashie niblick just to prove to you that this is in fact a real name of a club. From what I understand it is a seven iron, back before they thought up a numerical system for the clubs. First of all, Mashie Niblick would be a great name for a rock band. Second of all, how on earth do you get to the point where you name a golf club a mashie niblick? It sounds like something you'd find in Wonderland, near the jubjub bird.
We've got a few more Wednesday nights to follow this fun theme, and might actually be watching the Masters a little this year. Madison might go and play mini-golf too, before it's all said and done. We'll see how time allows.
As for today, Madison did not have tennis. But she did have homework, so she spent a good amount of time doing that. The weather is still a bit brisk outside, although it is finally warming up as if it were spring or something. Note: spring started a few weeks ago. One thing that is out in full force is the pollen. It is relentless and oppressive - Daddy has never been so affected before. Weird symptoms, along with the typical sinus troubles. We all have that dry, dusty skin thing going on. At least the breathing isn't as labored.
Madison had a bloody nose in the middle of the night, but it wasn't something that forced us to change the sheets. She can sense it coming, and knows to get to the bathroom right away.
She got to bed earlier tonight - in fact we all did once again. It was a good day, although Daddy didn't get to see Madison too much. Here's the golf message for next week, based on "The Greatest Game Ever Played," which we saw earlier this week for "homework":

The Greatest Game Ever Played
“The Greatest Game Ever Played”
is the ultimate underdog story, a movie about golf, but a movie about defying
expectations. As the world
watched, captivated, Francis Ouimet and Harry Vardon battled it out until the
very last hole – and who would be the winner? As we learn in the movie, both of them are winners, because
both are overcomers.
Francis Ouimet and Harry Vardon were told to stay put - golf was a sport for the super rich. But neither would give up their dreams, and both are legends to this day, having played the greatest game ever played. People may try to put a label on you, but the only one you should listen to is the one who has a plan for you, one not to harm you, but to give you hope and a future.
You’ll get there – just don’t give up, and keep putting along. Francis lost a caddie not once - but twice. And some of his shots were way off. But he found himself a ten-year old caddie with wisdom beyond his years, and never gave up, just playing the game one stroke at a time. Things happen and obstacles may pop up. But great challenges bring about greater victories!

So keep that drive. Both of these golfing greats blazed a trail. Francis was responsible for making golf
a popular sport in America. And Harry Vardon did more for golf than
anyone before or since. But one of the greatest things they both did was
make this sport a game that anyone can play, and not just the wealthy. Who knows what trail you'll be blazing - it can be something far greater.
Don't stay put. Step up and fulfill your destiny, using your
God-given talent. If you can keep that drive, you're about to step into
the greatest game ever played!
