Good Newsie

So here's an early concept idea for our new "Newsies" series that we're developing, which has one message really that's inspired by the movie/play itself, and the remaining messages dedicated to the Easter season and the whole idea about Good News, as first mentioned in Isaiah 61:1.  As I've mentioned many times before, it's these monthly series that come out of nowhere that inspire me so much - a month ago no one could have anticipated a series inspired by "Newsies," and yet we were unexpectedly stuck with a set that looked like old-school England for an additional month, and wondering what we could do with that.  The "Good News" idea hit me one morning before church, and I wrote out some ideas behind it and gave the elevator pitch, and here we are with a brand new series.  We're racing against time to get it done, of course, still writing a last message and a lot of devotional entries.  But the graphics are looking good - we were wanting to sort of say "Newsie" without really showing a dancing or jumping Newsie.  We didn't want to scream "Newsie" so much, as many people have not seen or even heard of this movie.  Many younger students have, and in fact are pretty inspired by it.  One Halloween not long ago, there were a couple Newsies wandering around our neighborhood with bags that had papes in them, spouting off loud conversations with a New York accent.  I think they were from the Bronx.  Anyway, the new series should be great.  I can't think about it too much, as there's Easter and all the complications that come with that.  Really, that's the whole reason we're doing "Good News" at KidPak:  because of the Easter production in the main sanctuary.  That thing is ballooning into this spectacle that will be somewhat like what we did at Christmas.  Hopefully it'll turn out great, but until then we have a lot of work to do.

It was a quiet day at the office otherwise, and Maddie had a quiet day today too.  She'll be doing her play one more time, dressing up as a Who from Whoville one last time in a production for the elementary school students.  She's looking forward to that.  She's doing some make-up tests, and just doing a lot this week to catch up really.  But she's doing fine.

There was quite a bit of thunder and rain today, as we're entering that Spring season again.  I say "Spring," but at the same time we're looking at a pretty zany forecast this weekend, one that features the possibility of snow in certain parts of Georgia.  We may even get a slight dusting here.  We've gotten one good snow here this year, so a dusting is just fine.  If we get enough, Maddie and I might make some miniature snowmen.  I'm not really anticipating that much snow though, if any at all.

We were watching some of the Paralympics tonight again, some inspiring stories as always.  Maddie has been busy doing homework or studying.  We got a link to a recording of her play online, and now we can watch "Seussical" again on our television at home, which is kind of cool.  We'll do that soon.  The songs are still stuck in my head.

Tonight we read from Kingdom Keepers again, and we're inside the original Tower of Terror, long after the accident of course.  Still, there's a lingering presence of those involved in the original tragedy, and the ghosts have been quite helpful.  I can't remember where all this is going, but it's been fun re-reading these books.  We've still got a bit to go on this one, but we're enjoying it.  Maddie lines up all the friends at the bed, including the new plush panda that she's named "Newsie."  Camille helped name that one because it's black and white.

We said our prayers tonight, and got to bed early.  Maddie has to be awake earlier tomorrow for school - it's going to be another nice day!
