Tonight was the debut of the board game Daddy created, one based entirely on the series, "Star Command," using characters from the old cartoon, and sort of following a "Chutes and Ladders" kind of format. When pitting the girls versus the boys in this game, it always adds a good amount of energy to things, the end result being a super fun game for everyone. The bottom line of determination and not giving up were part of this game, which is basically the essence of every "Chutes and Ladders" style game, which depending on the mercy of the dice can either be super frustrating, or perhaps only mildly frustrating. Seriously though, this game worked out well for the participants, and the little game pieces we made were perfect for moving along.
Speaking of determination and not giving up, Madison did amazing on both of her quizzes today, her math one and her geography quiz. The geography test, of course, was an easy one. Madison got all the regions and geography of the Middle East labeled perfectly without any problem at all. The big question was her math quiz: how would she do on that one? The last quiz did not go so well, and there was concern this early into the school year. She studied and did some reviewing last night, and spent an hour or so working on that. She spent a good deal of time prepping for this test, and so we were all a little nervous when we got the email late tonight that her teacher had posted the grades. The was after Madison had gone to bed, actually. We went to the online resource, and looked... and that's when we saw it: Madison got a 100! She got a perfect score!
Madison was not quite asleep yet, but Daddy couldn't help but sneak in her bedroom and tell her the news: she aced that test! She smiled, knowing she did well, but not that well. We were all pretty proud of her. This class may be an ongoing challenge, but she's working hard. It's an insult to go to the old common saying that "Asians are better at math." Madison is Asian in descent, and the only reason she was better at math today was that she studied super hard for it.
We watered the plants today, and made this one remark about the Prayer of Jabez. Lately, we've been praying that before bedtime, and the humor here is that in fact our "territory" has "enlarged" lately. Nana and Ye-Ye increased the size of our walking area in the back yard, and to the side of the house too. There are some nice areas under the trees, and it's been pleasant walking out there in the mornings, in the cool of the day, watering the new plants.
Daddy got home from church tonight in time to read to Madison, and we said our prayers, including that prayer. It's a powerful prayer - you've been warned!
