Small groups began at KidPak tonight, and it was the first of the school season. Each of us was facing a new set of kids - and wondering how it is we are already seeing a new set of kids. Where does the time go, right?
Madison had a homework assignment which was fairly simple, thanks to Mommy's ancestry work. She had to do a limited family tree, which in essence took less than ten minutes, because Mommy showed her the tree, and Madison filled in the appropriate blanks, and there... done! This is something that Mommy has been working on for some time now, looking into both hers and Daddy's ancestry, going back a considerable amount of years. So if it's a full family tree that's required for the assignment, then look out!
We had storms today, the result of intense heat. It was the kind of humidity that was oppressive right first thing in the morning. You walk right out there at 7am or so, and then flee back inside. Our upstairs air conditioner has been a little slow these past two weeks, so Mommy actually has a fan setup pointing cold air up there during the daytime, and for the most part, it works.
She's been so busy lately with these costumes, but one by one they're turning out pretty well. We'll post pictures online here in a few days when we do the series. Speaking of which, the set is coming along as well. Gone is the jungle of our "Tribes" series, replaced by an oversized playroom with Andy's wallpaper on the back, along with the clouds, building blocks, and a ginormous Etch-a-Sketch that houses our video screen. There are Scrabble tiles that spell out "KidPak," and a few other things about our set, along with the video imagery as well.
So we've had storms rolling in these last few nights, and as usual, our neighborhood has been spared the worst of things. Watching the doppler radar, this vicious line of storms was crawling down from the north, and you could hear it so clearly for such a long time. And yet, per usual, it sort of broke into sections before passing around us. We got rain, and noise, but nothing like the other locations around us. Tonight's storms were a bit calmer, and hopefully the grand finale of sorts to the extreme humidity and storms. We'll see!
In the meantime, a storm of another sort has formed, and that represents the bad news we got from Florida about Ba-Ba, and his diagnosis. The medical facilities do not inspire much confidence so far, giving the wrong diagnoses up until now, and so a private doctor determined the truth of things: a tumor around the esophagus. The VA once again made a mistake with a CT scan, only checking the abdominal area. This incorrect scan fortunately did not reveal much, and that's good news. The bad news is that we have to wait additional weeks to find out about the spread of this malignant presence. An additional scan will determine the stage, and what treatment. There is serious consideration to them coming up here for a time to be with our doctors, as they seem to be a little more proficient.
There's good news and bad news in the diagnosis. yes, it is what we think. But no, it's not widespread in the abdominal area. There are spots in the liver, but there were also spots in Mommy's liver when she had cancer, and these turned out to be benign. In fact, we've heard from several others who had a similar outcome with the spots on the liver. It's something to be aware of, but it doesn't necessarily mean anything at this point.
Anyway, our plans for this fall have altered quite a bit based on this news, as we want to be there as much as we can. We'll take it one step at a time.
