Madison and Daddy got back from piano class today, and here's the surprise we found waiting! Mommy made a delicious King's Cake, and of course you see the beads and masks there as well. Today was Fat Tuesday, and we were having a bit of a Mardi Gras party at the house, with a theme of "The Princess and the Frog." This past Saturday at the ice hockey game, we heard a live band doing Dixie Land Jazz - and the Gladiators were actually wearing modified jerseys with the Mardi Gras theme. All this sort of set up the whole idea of what today is, which we usually don't have time to acknowledge so much. In fact, we barely had time again to do it tonight.... because there was some serious homework to do!
Tonight, we did a big, big report on Franklin D. Roosevelt, one where we learned a whole lot about the guy whose state park we visited a few months ago. Did you know that Eleanor Roosevelt was President Teddy Roosevelt's niece? It's funny how we assume it was FDR that was related, but his relationship was much more distant. Anyway, we wrote a bunch of stuff out, and Madison knows all kinds of facts about FDR now, items she happily spouts out left and right. Along the way, Daddy learned a few things about FDR too, some of which weren't too great - but that's for another blog!
So the weather today was an interesting story - lots and lots of snow. But not much of it stuck at all, which was unusual, considering the heavy flakes that descended down all around. Madison jumped out of the car when we arrived at piano practice, and of course the tongue went out. We had to catch snowflakes with our tongues. These snowflakes were tasty!
But it's cold outside, that's for sure. It'll be that way for a bit, and even though the snow is not quite sticking today, it may do just that next week. We'll see though. That's the attitude down here when it comes to snow and sports teams: We'll believe it when we see it!
