Mad as a Hatter

"We're all mad here."

Today was Mad Hatter Day, and our schedule was pretty mad when Madison got home.  But Mommy still made time for a mad tea party just before bedtime!  Madison was working on a LOT of piano practice with Daddy in one room, while Mommy was secretly setting up the ingredients for a mad tea party in the kitchen.  We rounded the corner after finishing the epic piano saga, and found ourselves face to face with a table set up with lots of Wonderland fun!

It would be difficult to beat last year's Mad Hatter Day, especially with such a tight schedule this year.  So it was nice that Mommy was able to pull something off like this - it was a nice moment to stop and enjoy each other's company.  Along with treats and tea.  Of course, Madison isn't into tea at the moment.  She's more into the apple cider.  We've got plenty of that lately, including the sparkling pumpkin cider that she and Daddy are so keen on this month.

Today was a day of recovery in a way for us, as those days after a new series usually are.  But we still went out to do more work towards this series, namely getting hats to customize for our LEGO purposes.  Also, prizes for our race contestants.

But Daddy went to get Madison from school, and instead of heading off to ballet, we had another destination in mind:  the dentist.  We've had this scheduled for six months, and they are difficult to rearrange, so we kept it at Monday at 4:00 - otherwise we'd have to wait a bit for her return.  We bit the bullet and missed ballet tonight.  The good news is this:  her teeth look great.  This is happy news, as of course she is adopted, and her teeth were completely neglected for her first two years of life.  So it's a nice turnaround.

Madison had an x-ray taken today, which was really fascinating to her - she loved doing it and seeing the end result.  Daddy... not so much.  Look at this:

This is the jaw x-ray of pretty much any healthy eight-year-old.  It seems fitting that we look at this during the month of October, because it looks like the mouth of a small monster.  Look at all those teeth - they're all over the place!  This is the sort of thing that probably inspired Giger to make all those creepy alien designs.  He probably had a kid at the dentist and saw one of these x-rays.

Regardless of Daddy's thoughts, Madison thought it was cool - one thing she noted was that there were plenty of more opportunities for visits from the Tooth Fairy.  But there's also a little scientist at work inside, and she was fascinated by the whole process as well.

But it was good news all around at the dentist office, so we're of course pretty happy about that.  Madison enjoys visiting the dentist - in fact, at one point she said, "I can't wait to get there."  Which is of course what no one ever says about the dentist, ever.  I don't even think employees say that.  For one, I'm sure they're all just as creeped out by these x-rays!
