Fabulous Fifties

We're off and running.  Live from a golf course down in Florida, the family is here, resting in the cool Florida air.  Yes, that's right:  it gets cool in Florida.  It feels wonderful, actually.  When we left Georgia, it was getting downright chilly.  This, of course, was coming after a little over a week of unseasonably tropical weather.  So escape we did.

The morning was packing for Mommy.  And school for Madison.  She was learning about the solar system, actually.  And constellations too.  She told us all of this on the way down, and tonight was looking for the Little Dipper.  But today was the fiftieth day of school, which means only one thing:

The poodle skirt was back.  She was quite content with her look this morning, and it was neat watching all the kids dressed in leather jackets and poodle skirts.  I'm not sure, but in ten days, does that mean we get to all dress up like hippies?

Anyway, Daddy did a lot of driving this morning, first of all to the library to get three separate DVDs from the "Monster High" series.  I reserved those - and a book - for Madison.  Plus, Daddy got a few more comic book collections.  This has been a habit of Daddy this year:  reading through all those early comic books from the 1960's and beyond.  Daddy has read just about all of the X-Men early years now, and of course Daddy owns all the X-Men stuff from the 90's.  For this trip, we'll be visiting with the Fantastic Four, and some early Spiderman stuff as well.  Those old comics are still great to read - in fact I'd say better than the new stuff.  The new artwork is great, but the writers these days - for the most part - need to learn a thing or two from the generations before.  Daddy doesn't collect comics anymore, pretty much for this reason.

Boy, that was a rabbit trail.  Today on the way down, Madison watched all of her "Monster High" videos.  And played some games.  And slept.  She had the movie "Frozen" in, and Mommy turned around and saw her sleeping with the headphones still on.

We knew she was awake when she had started singing "Let it Go" a little too loudly.  She had the headphones on, so she didn't know she was so loud.  We let her keep singing, because it was cute.  This is - by Madison's count - her nineteenth time watching the movie.  She keeps track of these statistics, because apparently other kids do too.

The trip down was perfect.  We had the usual traffic in Atlanta, but the rest of our journey was smooth sailing.  We stopped at a few rest areas:  one we stopped at had a new feature - an overturned truck!  Apparently, the driver took the exit ramp too fast.  As we were pulling in, there it was, a dead truck.  It looked like it just crawled into the rest area, turned on its side and died.  Police and rest area patrons all sat around with their heads down in mourning.  Somewhere off in the distance, bagpipes played.

We made good time, despite the late start.  We had all kinds of upbeat church music playing on the way down, and our spirits of course are quite upbeat.  Mommy is feeling much better today, and the weather is going to be just perfect.  We're really looking forward to this weekend!

So tonight we arrived at Nana and Ba-Ba's house, and although it was later, we still had a bit of energy left in us to sit about and talk.  And eat some too.  Madison set up her coloring station right away, and we also spent a bit of time using an application on our hand-held device - it features Disney Infinity characters doing various tasks, interacting with wherever you are filming.  For example, Madison and Daddy spent a bit of time getting Jack Sparrow to roll out an old cannon, and blow up golfers.  Or have Jack Skellington pop out from behind the kitchen counter to scare off people.

So it was a rather uneventful trip, despite the cannon fire.  We're definitely pretty excited about the weekend!
