Madison knows all of the Ten Commandments. This was a great moment, as the statistics out there are bleak on this sort of thing. I think the current stat is that sixty percent of adults can't even name five of the commandments. And there's a percentage that think Joan of Arc was Noah's wife. And that Billy Graham delivered the Sermon on the Mount. Or that Sodom and Gamorrah were a married couple in the Bible.
So this week, in coordination with our teaching at KidPak, Daddy has been showing Madison the hand signals and rhymes that help you memorize all Ten Commandments. It hasn't been a high pressure sort of thing, and there wasn't any reward dangling in front of her for memorizing them: she just wanted to. And so tonight before Daddy headed back to KidPak, she gave it another try, attempting to list them all. And there it was, a proud parent moment: she was able to do it!
This in essence is what the series is about at KidPak: learning these core foundational concepts. And it is such a thrill to see your own child have something like this down. Tonight in the classrooms, Daddy was out seeing who else had memorized all ten, and there were quite a few. That means we're doing a good job, and that's very satisfying.
This afternoon, Madison was back at tennis practice - this time Daddy was there to watch. Wow, she's getting better there too. Some things are just routine for her now, as her instructor has been really good this year. We'l have to get her to the more advanced group though, as the kids she's around are younger and just starting out. Still, the instructor focuses more on her abilities and adjusts the requirements for Madison when she approaches. No more kid gloves! Madison listens intently, and does as she's told - or at least tries her best to. And she does really well, hitting the ball really well over the net.
We've got a lot to be proud of with our little girl!
