How's this for social distancing? Not many people on the beach today, although traditionally this portion of the beach isn't terribly crowded. It was overcast today, and we took a walk northward along the shore, and it was nice.
It was a nice day today. When the sun reaches a certain point in the afternoon, there's a lot of shade on the outdoor pool, so Madison and I spent about an hour out there. Surprisingly, the water was chilly to start with, given the temperatures outside recently. But we had fun out there with some more pool time, and we've been blessed to have so much pool time this summer.
It was just the two of us in that pool today, pretty much all day until later tonight. We were tossing a pool ball back and forth, that is, until Ocean 6's own version of "a Karen" came out to tell us we weren't supposed to have pool toys in the pool. Yeah, I know, right? Fortunately, we were ready to come out of the pool by that point, otherwise, our five inch sponge ball could have posed a serious health risk to the community, driving the value of the condo down, and possibly saving lives. Later on, we saw another family with a pool toy, and after that, four guys tossing an actual soft water football. Such reckless behavior! Ocean 6 should know about this right away!
As I said, we were on our way out of the pool anyway. We did a few other things today, including watching a Spring Training game!
The actual season starts soon, but we were able to watch a ball game on television as the Braves battled the Marlins. It was an interesting thing to watch - the stadium was empty, and some players were wearing face masks. But there was an baseball ambience in the background, the sound of a crowd that wasn't there. And there were the "hype noises," the sounds of a siren or themes on the baseball organ designed to get the non-existent crowd cheering. It was odd, but it's the best they could do, and it was greatly appreciated. We sat and watched the game, and of course it was made better by the Braves' victory. They were down 8-1 in the bottom of the eighth, and came back to win 9-8 with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth.
We had tacos today, even though it was Wednesday, and even though these are Wednesday tacos, they were still really good. In fact, we had a really good breakfast as well, just as we usually do when we're here.
We all spent a good bit of time reading today, and some writing too. I've been working on a new imaginary series dedicated to Oz lately, and working on a devotional. I finished Day Thirteen of the devotional today, which is just something I was wanting to do lately - I'm not sure if I'll finish it down here, but I'll keep plugging along. Oz is a fun subject.
I spent most of the day reading my library book today, a book about Sam Houston and the Alamo, and how much of a loser Santa Anna was. At least, so far he's been a loser. We'll see where he ends up in this book, but it's been a great read on the balcony, the sound of the ocean in the background, and a few people sitting out there on the beach, playing or just walking along.
Tonight we were able to watch an episode of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", this one part of season seven and something none of us have seen before. It was a simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking episode, one with a lot to laugh about, and one with much to cry about too. We brought along some microwave popcorn and watched it together in the bedroom there.
It was a nice relaxing day, as most of these days are at the beach. Madison was watching "Agent Carter" a bit earlier with the grandparents, and before that, she actually got to attend her Zoom meeting for an hour or so. Even in Florida, she wanted to make sure she was online with Camille and her friends, having a small group service over Zoom. Camille wanted to see the beach, so Madison brought the camera over to the balcony to proudly show off Daytona Shores.
It was a good today. Tonight's walk along the shore revealed that there was a turtle nest that's ready to be escaped from fairly soon. We met this lady that we always seem to meet walking along this shore. Her job - we'll call her an environmental Karen - is to check on the turtles each night, and we always seem to run into her. She then tells us to be sure to vote in November, and thankfully she doesn't tell us who to vote for or why, although I'm fairly certain who that would be. She's quite passionate about the environment. We've literally met her on the beach on each of the last five or six trips down here to Daytona. Tonight we met her at one of the turtle nests that looked like it has been here a while, and sure enough, she confirmed that the turtles were ready to hatch any night now. That'd be nice to see again.
Okay, it's time for bed. I'm still under all kinds of weather here. Mommy is putting oils on my feet and my chest to help with lung issues, but there's been an underlying thought that it could be partially a pancreas issue. Which is interesting, isn't it? I'm only thinking this because of the relationship of an area of slight pain, right after I eat. It's odd to have a pain in your shoulder after eating something, but nevertheless, there it was. This was after pancreatitis, the week or so it took to heal. And here I am again, feeling those small sensations of pain, higher up, and usually after I eat. I might have to go to a doctor soon, but with all that's going on, I'm dreading that...
We prayed tonight, for healing for all of us. We read another chapter from "Wings," which has taken our nomes to Florida, which is a wonderful coincidence. The nomes have just discovered the existence of alligators, although they haven't met one yet. We're moving along with this book, and enjoying it quite a bit.
And after that, it was time for some sleep...
