We slept in this morning, and in a way, we get to sleep in a bit tomorrow morning too - that's because it is Daylight Savings Time, and time to "fall back." This time of year always ignites the controversy of why we even have Daylight Savings Time, something that started about a hundred years ago as an effort to save energy, from what I understand. Many people hate it, but of course no one complains too loudly during this part of Daylight Savings Time. That's because we'll all get an extra hour of sleep tonight. Or super early tomorrow morning. Which is odd in a way. I mean, it's an interesting moment of the year where you can say it is 2:00 am, and then an hour later, say it's 2:00 am. I'm sure it's a fairly simple solution, but I've often wondered about those people working night shifts - do they get an extra hour's pay? Or how about time stamps - as in, when the police say a crime was committed at 2:00 am on Saturday night, which 2:00 am are they talking about?
Anyway, it was a quiet day today, this after a fairly busy week. We had plans to do another Christmas tree today, but that gave way to the urgent need to do a substantial amount of adjustments to the upcoming Christmas production script. Basically, we added three orphans and a minister's assistant. The assistant part was easy. Adding three orphans was another matter altogether, as there needed to be some thought put into who they are and so on. One of these characters is Mei-Mei, which is a name for Madison's characters in our "Neverland" series and our "Legends" series. So this character sort of shows up from time to time, and now will be up on the big stage. I didn't wake up with this idea, but during the writing process, it just made sense for her to be somewhat of an Artful Dodger. Somewhat. She's basically a skilled pickpocket, and has a few key moments that will hopefully get some laughs.
We got an email today that let us know that Madison has a part in the play, which is funny because Daddy is writing the play and he already knew that. But he's been keeping it secret all this time, despite Madison's nerves. The idea was to let her experience the same emotions all the other hopeful actors and actresses were experiencing. Anyway, she was greatly pleased at the news, surprised and really happy to hear she's not only got a part, but she'll be acting on Gainesville's stage as well. We told her how proud of her we are. Practice starts this Tuesday!
Daddy spent a while writing, while Madison was doing piano today, and playing video games. It was that sort of day. Daddy went to the grocery store at one point, and got back in time to have a game of Star Wars Monopoly with Madison. It was Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader! This coincided with our message for KidPak tomorrow, which has a Monopoly theme to it. It also is tied to the final reading from the Thrawn Trilogy tonight - we're done with that series now. Madison is ready to do another Star Wars book right away, this after also finishing her other book, "Lost Stars." Daddy wants to do a classic book, maybe going to Narnia. We'll see. But in the meantime, the girls enjoyed this last Star Wars book very much.
Tonight we watched our first Christmas movie of the season, "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms." This one doesn't hit you over the head with Christmas as much as others do, so we thought we'd ease into it first. Along those lines, we were listening to some Christmas CDs today, some of the quieter instrumental ones. You just can't dive in too big, right?
Today was Nana's birthday. It was a tough day for Mommy, because she was able to speak with Ba-Ba, and in doing so discovered he's in fact not had a good week. Treatment has left him in bad shape, and he still has two weeks to go. Mommy has been devastated by this news, and we're again considering our options of what to do. We'll be down there for Thanksgiving week for sure. But Mommy is considering going down there sooner.
We said our prayers tonight for Ba-Ba, and of course the Imperial Infuser turned dark red as it always does, and Madison and Daddy hummed the Imperial March. The funny thing about tonight was Mommy giving her nightly zerbert while this was going on, those little stomach raspberry noises done in time to the Imperial March music. It was pretty funny!
We're getting to bed later tonight, or is it earlier? Either way, it's time for sleep. Goodnight!
